"Happy" Earth Day?

  1. Several friends have posted Happy Earth Day messages on FB. We have endangered species, global climate change, melting ice at the poles, hunger, I could go on and on.

I understand wanting to celebrate our little blue planet, but I am curious if we have much to be "happy" about?

I suppose it's not the greatest turn of phrase...but it's a convenient way to mention it, and who know what awareness that mention will lead to? It's early yet, maybe the actual informative links will start flowing once people get some coffee in them (Fair Trade, of course). Seems like a weird thing to get negative on. This should be the one day we can put the fatalism and hopeless feelings away and just breath and appreciate the wonders all around us.

  3. I was not trying to be negative, just spark a conversation.

  5. Things I'm happy about:

☺ The Sun just reappeared. (Heh-heh. Turns out it was there all along!)

☺ From the Moon, the Earth still looks like a big blue and white swirly marble.

☺ This here Blog has facilitated/reported on several local clean-up operations. (Yay Blog!)

I could go on, but I don't want to hog all the optimism. Good karma to you, zenguy. Happy hedonism to you, CH.

Getting my degree in environmental restoration. Now if everyone will convince lawmakers that this is worth funding, we will have something to happy and hopeful about!

  7. I think it's more that people are wishing for a happy Earth Day. Or encouraging others to make is a happy Earth Day. In that spirit: Happy Earth Day!
