Gunshots at Alki

Did anyone else hear four gunshots last night (August 15th) at 4:30 Am? We couldn't find anything on the news sites, but saw multiple police cars prowling around the neighborhood after the shots. Crazy, you think Alki is a nice quaint beach community, until a nice, summer, Saturday night when people don't go home.

  2. I was still working at 4:30 and therefore watching 911.

I can tell you nobody got shot or otherwise injured, so if shots were fired they didn't hit anyone, and if no one was actually shot, you generally won't find that reported here or any other news site unless there is word of bullets having hit a building/car/etc.

I just checked the mapped 911 calls and while there are several Alki calls from "disturbance" to "animal complaints" early this morning, nothing mentions gunshots.

  3. Update:

As typically happens on a Sunday, many folks are just getting back to their computers - and new reports of weekend doings trickle in. This includes two notes about these shots - including one from a woman who says she found shell casings.

I'm doublechecking the police maps again (may have been a lag) and once I've done that will post a Crime Watch report including what she wrote in - TR

Sadly Alki has not been safe for several years. The last time we were there in the evening was when the shooting at the Pepperdock happened. It's so upsetting that the police don't have the resources to be down there all the time because what should be the jewel of this city is now overrun with gangs, etc..

  5. Alki is a special place to us all just try to remember you will find crazies any where in the world but the 99% of the time alki is a sanctuary for all of us

  6. Thanks Big Kahoona. Alki is safe. It is FAR safer than many places you might go it Los Angeles. And safer still then Afghanistan. Alki is a great place and quite safe. Gunshots once every two months does not make a place "unsafe" in the sense we are talking about now. It's our neighborhood, keep it safe if you think that is changing.

  7. i suspect it is still true that you are more likely to be murdered by someone you know than by the menacing stranger....

and those "gang bangers" with their pants falling from their hips on Alki that everyone fears..

most of them are just kids doing what kids have done for centuries.

the traditions of Halloween didn't start with cute little munchkins in costume politely holding their sack out for you..

the trick in trick or treat used to have real meaning for those who tipped outhouses... or overturned buggies... or...

if you want alki to be safe..
invade it with families.. lots and lots of kids and coolers and frisbees and balls and ....

and smother those "bangers" with kindness...
try smiling and saying hello... isn't it a great day...

if you share the beach instead of clearing a wide space around those kids i think you will find they are mostly just kids having a good time at the beach...

not that different from you... really.

When you have to say "safer than Afghanistan", there is something rotten in the state of Denmark....

  9. so should i avoid the Admiral district now?
that was one mean assault rifle that was confiscated after shots were fired there.

    or what about the junction?
    shots have been fired there.

    and QFC..
there was a robbery at one of their banks recently...

    oh.. and westwood mall

and weren't there shots fired at Lincoln Park?

I don't know about you but i haven't stopped frequenting any of those locations...

so why would Alki be any different?
