HMC RichParticipantThank You Margaret Thatcher. You were a GREAT woman. Whether Loved or Hated you stuck to your principles. You lead England out of the horrible malaise of the 70’s. Now, You are with Denis in Heaven.
You were a great Prime Minister, a great British Subject, and a great woman. Rest In Peace Dear Lady.
And we have lost a dear friend.

KimberleyParticipantRegardless of how viewed ol’ Maggie, you have to admit that she left quite a legacy. One of the first handful of females in power, that’s nothing to shake a stick at. For those of us who grew up under her rule, we each or our parents each may have perceived her differently.

villagegreenMemberSticking to your principles is overrated. Hitler stuck to his principles.

HMC RichParticipantMaggie was what Britain needed and they elected her three times. No politician was ever perfect and she certainly wasn’t. But she was a leader. The world benefited from having female leaders such as Lady Thatcher, Golda Meir, and Indira Gandhi. I was truly saddened when Benezir Bhutto(?) of Pakistan was assassinated. The reactions of the reactionary union leftists in Britain is appalling. A Conservative in Britain. Harold Wilson closed more miners pits than Lady Thatcher. And I didn’t see Tony Blair changing Britain back to the policies of the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s. There were times of prosperity in Britain during some of those decades, but things went downhill drastically in the 70’s.
My wife grew up there. She was a young labor person who disliked her at the time. Even disagrees with many of her former policies to this day, but was saddened to hear of her passing. She is extremely appalled at the Hitler reference and finds it offensive. How can you compare the Democratically elected leader of Great Britain to the third worst madman of the 20th Century? This coming from a died in the wool Obama groupie.
The 70’s were the culmination of somewhat noble and misguided British policies controlled by Labour and the country was deteriorating. Since 1948 the country starting tanking. Like or hate her she made the country better. Not everyone benefited individually, but the country revived. More people became prosperous and Britain regained its strength. The Lib Dems and Labour blamed her for hurting the poor. She blamed them for making everyone poorer. Depends on how you look at it.
I know the left wingers are fully against the policies of Thatcher and the Tories, but compare the 70’s to 80’s and 90’s. Britain became better under the Iron Lady. Rest in Peace Lady Thatcher and Sod Off you wanker protesters. I just wanted to say Sod off you wankers.
