    Hi there WS peoples :)

My little guy is gluten free and also primarily dairy free . I searched on here but didn\'t see a post devoted to this...

I know PCC Market has his bread and some other basics. Whole Foods over here has quite a bit too, but isn\'t there some delay with the one over there?

Does anyone know of anything else over there? Even if it\'s a cafe\' that sells one type of cookie, it\'s good to know.

Over here, we have Davinci\'s which is AWESOME. That is the one thing I will really miss.

    Any other GF/Celiacs on here?

    Thanks!

  2. Hi ellenator - I\'ve recently had to eliminate wheat, dairy, coffee and sugar, so I can relate. I\'ve been relying on PCC and Whole Foods for much of what I need. Admittedly, I\'m doing it for inflammatory reasons not celiac/IBS, so it\'s not like I get sick if I eat any of it, so I do go out to eat a lot and not worry about what\'s in my food down to miniscule ingredients - I do have other allergies though, so I know what it\'s like to have to analyze stuff.

As for the WS Whole Foods, they are breaking ground for the construction later this month. So I don\'t expect we\'ll see it here for quite some time.

I did find this link for gluten-free dining in Seattle, although I don\'t think any are specifically in WS: http://www.innatehealthfoundation.org/5_d.htm

And this link of reviews on Yelp re: gluten-free Seattle: http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=gluten+free&find_loc=Seattle+WA

  3. the little health food store next to Pagliacci has a big \"gluten and wheat free\" sign in the window. Amazon Fresh is also a good resource for wheat and gluten free items.
mt stepmom is wheat and gluten allergic. I will pick her brain too to see where she goes.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  4. My wife just recently discovered her wheat gluten allergy, so I\'ll make her come on here and post, sometime...

Sundays at the market is the flying apron bakery, gluten free, vegan, lots of good tasty stuff.
Other then that, PCC, and even thriftway carry some items. PCC is labeled much nicer though, as they say gluten free on most of the price tags.

  5. I forgot about Flying Apron at the farmers market - their stuff is amazing! I just bought a loaf of their house bread that\'s made with rice and garbanzo flour and pumpkin. Their store is in Fremont, but they\'re at the market in WS each weekend. http://www.flyingapron.net/

thanks. I figured there has to be some stuff.

JenV, is that on California above the Alaska junction? I\'ve never seen that! Have you used Amazon Fresh?

I\'ve been to Flying Apron, too. The owner if SUPER nice and went out of her way to make us a pizza crust to bake at home. Really good person. Glad to know the farmer\'s market has their stuff. Good news for the kiddo. Those honeys ticks they have there are also yummy.

  7. ellenater- yes it is. on the NW corner of California and Alaska streets next to an insurance office, Pagliacci and some really cool shoe store...I don\'t know what it is called, though.

Amazon Fresh is great. If you do a search on the WSB, we have discussed many times. What is great about AF, you can narrow your search to wheat/gluten free and it will only show those items...

We were recently at Morgan/WS Thriftway (thread here reminded me that I hadn\'t been there for awhile) and I noticed a pretty substantial gluten-free dry pasta section. Since it\'s not an issue for me, I don\'t know that I would usually notice, but I was intrigued by the idea of a corn pasta. Made a note to return after I make a better dent in the pasta supply I already have!

  9. urg. NW corner of California and OREGON streets. sorry \'bout that.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  10. Actually, that health food store next to Pagliacci is near the NW corner of California and Oregon (not Alaska). That\'s one block north of Alaska.

Not sure, but I think someone said Coffee to Tea on California had some allergy friendly baked goods. Not sure if it is gluten or something else, but it might be worth a look.

There was an article in Seattle Woman last month that was all about gluten free. I\'ll try to find the info. and post it. Very good article and the author has also written a book called, \"Gluten Free Girl\". It contains advice on living with celiac disease...

Also, her hubby is a chef at Impromtu Wine Bar - off Madison. They will prepare gluten free meals on request.

Believe or not the Outback Steakhouse has a gluten-free menu. The closest one I know of is Bellevue, but it might be an option if you\'re looking for a night out with the fam.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  17. Amy, there\'s also an Outback near Southcenter Mall.

OK, from the article: \"...Gluten-Free Menus or Items\" I don\'t think any of these are in West Seattle other than goods from Flying Apron.

    Bliss Baked Goods
    DaVinci Cafe\' and Bakery
    The Flying Apron
    Sunny Valley Wheat Free
    PF Chang\'s China Bistro
    Outback Steakhouse
    Bonefish Grill
    Emory\'s on Silver Lake
    Lucky Palate Meal Delivery Service

The article also mentioned Seattle based Dr. Stephen Wangen, and goes on to say that he is cofounder and medical director of the IBS Treatment Center in Seattle which diagnosis and treats food allergies and gluten intolerance. He has a book out, also:

    \"The Irritable Bowel Syndrome Solution\"

I can say that most insurance companies do not cover this testing. Maybe with the prevalence of celiacs, that will change.

  19. Hey all! I\'m rs261\'s wife Laura! I have a few questions about the little guy\'s allergies. Can he tolerate oat, barley or buckwheat? Where is he with dairy?
As far as grocery stores in the area, PCC and Thriftway are the closest w/the largest selections. PCC is great because they have vegan \"wheat-free\" ready made baked goods!
If you have the time and are willing to drive to Burien, the Trader Joes and Fred Meyers have a good selection of products at better prices than the previous. Our Safeway also has some items but sometimes it can be hit or miss on availability.
If you ever have a hankering for a burger, Zippy\'s on 16th & Holden will be more than accommodating to your boy\'s needs. They have offered to change their frying oil because they fry onion rings and french fries in the same oil! Really great people there! There are a lot of good places to eat here but as you probably know you have to pick and chose your way through menus!
If you have more questions email me @ rueshouse@ gmail.com
Congratulations on your move and welcome to West Seattle!

Wow, thanks Laura. That is really good info. He doesn\'t do dairy but can do a little as compared to gluten, none. We do McCann\'s oats because they are supposedly processed without gluten. We do wheat-free Barbara\'s occasionally during non-allergy season.

We are very excited about Zippy\'s! I will miss Trader\'s like crazy so will have to find that Burien one!

Somebody needs to open a G/F cafe in West Seattle!

Thanks again! That info. is invaluable to me!

  21. I was at River House Creperie today for the first time, and saw on their printed menu a Gluten Free section that says \"We serve a variety of Gluten-Free options, including Gluten-free crepes, brown rice tortilla wraps, cheese and veggie plates, and others. Check in to find out about our other Gluten-Free specials.\"

Their website is http://www.riverhousecreations.com - I would call and confirm the gluten-free options since it doesn\'t seem to mention it on their website.

  22. Hey try Squid and Ink in Gtown. Mostly GF, and Vegan. They are a great group of people running that place.

Where is Gtown? I suppose I could Google them. That\'s funny, my little guy is all about squids.

  24. I was at Great Harvest bakery in the junction today and saw that they are starting to make gluten free bread. They had 2 varieties today, and they have a list of people interested in it and who are suggesting other variations such as gluten, dairy and/or egg free, all of which they are considering. If you\'re interested in gluten/dairy/egg-free bread, get in touch with them to make your preferences known so they\'ll know what recipes to work out next.

  26. I have to highly recommend the vegan/glutenfree ice cream at Full Tilt. My two-year-old and husband both enjoyed all the flavors and the vegan ones are especially tasty.

The best bakery I have found is "Da Vinci Bakery" in Greenwood. It's a bit off the beaten track and has a loyal customer base. I could never find anything that tasted like normal people food until i went there. I thought i had to compromise taste because that's just how things were. I went there and fell in love. It's amazing :)

Check out BellinghamBakery.com's Gluten-Free Vegan Cupcakes and Cookies at the West Seattle Produce Company. Amazing flavors and they all taste great. The company sets up tent out front on the weekends but you can sometimes find the cupcakes and cookies inside the store during the week.

They also take requests for flavors or allergies (soy, sugarless, etc.) 4721 Fauntleroy SW

  29. PCC and Fred Meyer carry glut/wt free pasta. In a box made from corn flour and tastes just like the real deal. (Rice pasta is horrible). Harvest bread on calif way has great G/W free pizza dough. Make a meal of any kind on top.

  30. My friend Eveline (who is a fantastic cook, as well as a graduate of the Bachelor's Nutrition program at Bastyr) is launching a lunch truck offering gluten-free vegetarian food. She is having a fund-raiser event on Friday evening on Capitol Hill. Maybe a good showing from West Seattle could convince her to come over here once in a while!

    yum. Double Yum.

and, Hotwire coffee in WS has their Wheatless Wednesdays with loads of great stuff as well.

  33. Great Harvest has a really good dairy & wheat-free white bread. My sister has pretty intense wheat and cow's milk allergies, and she loves picking up a few loaves when she is in town.

Can't believe that it took so long for somebody to mention Great Harvest Bread Co. They have tons of GF stuff and seem to have been making it for quite a while- they didn't just start. I love their buckwheat and buckwheat dakota bread (don't care for the brown rice bread) and they always have lots of GF treats- scones, cookies and cupcakes. Also, they have GF frozen pizza crusts, hot dog and hamburger buns. Also, GF granola and mixes. Seriously, it's almost the only place I get any kind of GF bread products (although Udi's frozen blueberry muffins call out to me from time to time at QFC).

  36. I think I've said this before, but I love to order carryout gluten free pizza from Luciano's and walk across the street to the Cask and enjoy the pizza with a Green's gluten free ale!

  37. Shout Out to Udi's Chia Seed and Millet bread. I get it at Thriftway, its the best product that I have found so far for GF sandwiches and toast. yummm...:)

WHAT. Lucianos has GF pizza? SO excited. I've been eating the other one and it's not tasty. I had just given up.

Udi's crust is good for DIY pizza but I don't like their bread. It's too fluffy. Great Harvest has the BEST GF bread. I like their cookies too. Their Rosemary garlic bread is Amazing. So savory and hearty. Love Great Harvest!

  39. If you are interested in Gluten Free food you should check out Chaco Canyon Cafe. They are located on Alaska and Fauntleroy on the bottom floor of the Link Apartments. They have an all Vegan menu and cater specifically to allergies of all types. You can check their menu out online as well.
