Gas brands vs pump prices

  1. About a month ago there was a forum topic regarding gas brands and the responses caused me to revisit the issue. I had looked into this a few years ago and, based on my research on the web, concluded that all gas brands were the same. So I've been buying from anyplace that was cheap. After reading through the thread, I decided to revisit the issue and try out driving with Shell gas from Barney's.
My car is a German 6 cylinder that demands premium gas and my burn rate has been a pretty steady 300 miles per tankfull for the last 2 years. The only exception is when I take a long road trip because then the mileage will jump up 30% on the highway.
The first tank, I didn't notice a difference. On the 2nd it seemed notably better but the 3rd tank saw a 15% improvement in mileage. I figured that would top out but I just burned through the fourth tank and saw a full 20% improvement. I'm impressed. I'm liking my car much more now as that puts it the 24 mpg range for city driving.

Good to know. Thanks for checking this and the persistent record keeping.
