FYI: Someone took my groceries this morning!

GRRRR.

The bad news: I get Amazon Fresh at the pre-dawn delivery. They usually deliver around 5am and I usually get it at 7am. Today I want out to find my bins from last week gone as well as my groceries. They came back by and confirmed they had indeed delivered them. Sooooo, some jerk took my groceries, bins and all. I just hope it was someone who was hungry and needed them!

The good news: Amazon, in their infinite goodness is replacing the order (most of it, some of it is now out of stock :( for free. They really are the best.

I am just bummed that someone would do that and that I can no longer get an unattended delivery.

The rep. I spoke with on the phone knew of one other theft but not today.

So, heads up to those who get the unattended. The thieves had to have had a van because they took the bins and there had to have been at least 12 of them.

I live in Gatewood, BTW.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Damn, Ellenator, I'm sorry that happened to you!! My husband makes fun of me because I go outside in my pj's to pull the bins off the porch at 5 am when I hear them delivered. I was totally worried about theft too. :( People who steal totally suck!

cruiser, I don't live on Holly but it's six blocks down. I was wondering if they were following the Amazon truck but it doesn't sound like it...

bummer, I'll have to think twice about the pre-dawn delivery now.. I too live on Gatewood Hill -I can't hear the delivery from my bedroom.

ellenater- that sucks- sorry to hear that. I am glad that AmazonFresh stepped up and took care of it. One time they accidentlly delivered to my upstairs neighbors instead of me, and since I am usually out there in my PJs too, I had no idea. They sent another driver around right away and that's when we discovered the bins sitting up on my neighbor's front porch (the door is upstairs and around the corner from my door) - anyhoo, their customer service can't be beat. Might want to try for attended delivery if you don't mind the driver seeing you first thing in the am!

oh, and "pre-dawn" is variable as far as the time goes. One time they were dropping off my groceries at 3 am- it scared me- I thought it was a prowler.

hahaha cruiser! Yeah, they've delivered at my house at 3 am too. I started thinking about how dark it was and how easy it would be to steal them and I got up to drag them inside. Kinda ruined my night's sleep. But I still love AF!

I could care less if the delivery dude sees my PJ's. They have bubbles so he may enjoy them. I just like the freedom of unattended and it's sorta like Christmas. i just pretend I magically have food on my porch...and it's stuff I actually like!!!

Sorry to hear about that, Ellenator. And as others have said, kudos to Amazon Fresh.

Trying not to stray too far off topic, but another example of the great service of Amazon in general.

A couple years or so ago, I ordered an audio CD from Amazon, as I had done a few times before. I believe they usually use USPS for regular delivery. I was tracking the delivery, and at some point the USPS site claimed it had been delivered.

I checked with my apt manager, and if I recall a few neighbors, and nobody had received it by mistake. So, I chalked it up to being stolen fron the bldg lobby, or totally mis-delivered to another address.

I contacted Amazon, fully expecting them to say they would launch an investigation into it, or that I would have to contact USPS. Instead, they said they'd send another copy right out. This time, they used UPS, and it arrived in a matter of days, well before the estimated delivery date.

Well, lo and behold, a few days later, the original one mysteriously appears! I didn't want to go to the trouble of returning it, and couldn't in good consciense keep the extra copy, so I contacted Amazon, and asked if I could pay for the extra copy and keep it to give to a friend. They not only said "no problem", but waived the delivery fee on the extra copy.

It does point out that there may be folks in our neighborhoods who are in distress, though. Think about it. What if you were laid off or in between paying jobs - a contractor, builder, any skilled trade, graphics artists, musicians, there are lots of folks who could be "out of work" unduly for a while. What if your choice was to pay the rent or mortgage and what utilities you could but not eat. What if, then, you realized that around you were people who were getting Amazon.com food deliveries. Not really something you might want to do but you do need to eat and these folks you're stealing from are obviously better off than you are at the moment.

Not saying this is what's happened but I am saying that we're heading for some very unstable times and people - all of us - are quite capable of fending for ourselves when push comes to shove and we may just be seeing a few early examples of distress. To me this is even sadder than the tent city situation.

It shows that we've allowed greed and self-interest to become more important than self respect and independence. Personally, I'd rather go hungry for a few days than steal and in earlier years have done just that. Taught me to be lean and still have self respect.

I have been hungry a few times in my life but I didn't steal. And I keep thinking there are food banks... but that's pretty snotty. If someone is stealing groceries they must need to eat. It's just an inconvenience to me. Actually it's more about feeling violated. The thing is, if they had asked, I would have given them food!

I do like the porch PJ film idea, angelcrest. Sadly, I will be keeping my bubbles to myself from here on out... sniff.

Amazon does rule!
