Fun winter Saturday in Seattle suggestion....

I'm looking for something new and creative to do in the Seattle area with my boyfriend this Saturday. Indoors or outdoors. Something other than Pike Place, glass museum, wine tasting in Woodinville, Space Needle. I've done those countless times. We usually hike but with the recent snow and floods I'd rather do something else. This city has so much to offer and I know there are things to see and do that I've missed. Thanks in advance for your ideas and suggestions!

Ferries to Bainbridge are always fun, spend a couple of hours, have a meal and then home again.

Check out Full Tilt Ice Cream and play some pinball! They're my new favorite. If you feel like a bit of a drive, the batting cages are always fun - I believe there are some a little south of us here in West Seattle. The Museum of History and Industry is fun if you've never been there (and close to the lake by the University and the walking around there is FABULOUS even in the cold.) See a movie at the Columbia City theater (it's unique, small and inexpensive and there are GREAT restaurants around there - I like Geraldine's.) PCC sometimes has cooking classes. I'll try to brainstorm some more...

Hi guys! Long-time reader, first-time posting in awhile!

If I could offer my 17 cents, I would tell you to check out the casinos over on Bainbridge, or one of those islands that aren't part of Seattle. Free drinks when you are on the floor playing! Plus you might win money! Warning: they play lots of "theme-y" music, i.e. "HIT ME Baby One More Time", "HIT ME with Your Best Shot" "Gambling is Wicked Awesome" and other tunes. But it can be fun. Unless you have a drinking/gambling problem. Then, not as much fun. But still kinda fun.

Overall, a GREAT TIME TO BE HAD!

I like the Bainbridge idea.

A friend of mine's family runs Waterway Cruises on Lake Union and they are starting up cooking classes.

If you go to Bainbridge, go to the Bloedel Reserve. You need to make a reservation. It's a jewel and enriching on many levels!

This may not be "fun" enough but if you're outdoorsy maybe you'd be into it.

There are work parties in local greenbelts every single Saturday. Usually 10 am-2 pm. And this Saturday, the Orchard Street Ravine has one going on, 9 am-1 pm.

P.S. To anyone reading this who hasn't checked the calendar yet - Alice of Snowstorm '08 map fame is leading a workshop on Google Map creation at Uptown by request on Saturday.

I'm assuming you've been to the Pacific Science Center, but have you been to see Lucy yet? I hear it is quite an interesting exhibit. I'm looking forward to seeing it this weekend!

Check out the J.A. Witt Winter Garden at the Washington Park Arboretum. The winter-flowering plants there are amazing.

We did the ferry to Bainbridge recently and it was really great. You can rent a kayak over there also. It doesn't need to be comlicated. Go to Lincoln Park with your camera and take pictures of the Madronas.

I will have to second the Bloedel reserve. The reservations limit the number of people so that it stays serene, the moss garden is cool too.

Hey, some of us enjoy going to the range for a date!

(Unfortunately for shed22, however, I'm not dating anyone. Other than my husband.)

Uh, other suggestions...the Lucy exhibit IS great, tons of stuff about Ethiopia too, recommended. Wing Luke Asian Museum has a Hawaiians in the PNW exhibit on right now and there are tons of places nearby to eat, and the Burke Museum has an exhibit on one of the Northwest's favorite things (that would be coffee) opening soon (though not till the 24th). Or there's the Nordic Heritage Museum.

You could do an urban hike, walk around a neighborhood you don't normally frequent, look for interesting shops, take pictures.

If you have a GPS, you could go geocaching. Tons of caches within the city limits. Geocaching.com to get started.

If you're into aviation, and have done the Museum of Flight - you could try the Flying Heritage Collection & Museum up at Paine Field in Everett.

Try Discovery Park over in Magnolia for hiking, especially since it looks like we may have a sunny Saturday. There is a three mile loop trail that takes you around the park: through the meadow where you might see the coyote, out to the bluffs with gorgeous views of Puget Sound, through forests, etc. If you're feeling ambitious there is a trail down to the beach (the climb back up is the ambitious part). The Daybreak Star Cultural center is located near one entrance to the park, lots of wonderful Native American art from our local artists there plus a mound/pond feature.

Try Blade or Roller skating Alki or Green Lake. A walk on Alki from the old Luna Park to Luna Park Cafe and back. Lunch at the Luna of course. Other direction my fav lunch of dinner at Pegasus
Pizza.
There's the new Southwest Pool and hot tub by Sealth High.
Walk the Lincoln Park waterfront, and take in a Fauntleroy ferry ride to Southworth/Vashon.

How about Vashon? It's nearby and a short ferry ride.
there's a new indian restaurant there, which is supposed to be good. Nice little Tea Shop is also along main street. About a dozen
little shops make for nice browsing, with bookstores, ethnic crafts,
and antiques. You can go see a lighthouse. Sit in Back Bay Inn
and watch the harbor.

Thank you all for such great suggestions! I will keep this info and do all of these in time (except for the rollerblading - not for the balanced challenged like me).

Here's what we did:
1) Georgetown - Georgetown Brewery of course to get a growler of Manny's (for $6!) and two very cool t-shirts for $8 each. Then to a glassblowing shop and very cool antique shop (forgot the name) that has very funky furniture and accessories. Had lunch at the Hanger Cafe. They specialize in sweet and savory crepes. Fantastic! I had the caprese crepe and it could not have been better! Highly recommended.

2) Columbia City - It was a sunny day so it was nice to walk around the main drag there. Went to the Bookworm Exchange used book store and got a few books. Then went to the Columbia City Alehouse to have a few local winter ales. Love the Elysian Bifrost Winter Ale.
