From a cyclist, to a cyclist

I spend a lot, repeat, A LOT of time on my bike. In fact, I put about the same amount of miles on my bike as you folks tell your insurance company that you put on your cars. Thing is, I'm a driver too.

    Here's the rub-

Cyclists - stop being arrogant a-holes. If you are out for a casual ride, get over to the side and let those that are actually driving somewhere get around you. If you are commuting... same thing. Be courteous! The nicer you are, the nicer drivers will be!

Remember. The driver YOU flip off will take their anger out on the next cyclist they see (and it might be me!). Heck... the driver you flip off (which you did) might be a cyclist themselves.

    Sigh.

  5. If we as cyclists are revealing our inner secrets...My real beef with other cyclists (as a dedicated regular cyclist like yourself Velo) is the running of red lights. It may not be inherently dangerous to a driver but I sure don't want to witness you getting run over.

Disclosure: This is also what makes me absolutely fume about drivers. Red light running is inexcusable by ANYONE but emergency vehicles and police (with lights/sirens activated of course).

Ah, I wish the cyclists STANDING IN THE MIDDLE OF ADMIRAL today would take your advice. :)

My boyfriend was so frustrated after sitting in traffic from rubberneckers on the WS Bridge that when he encountered those people blocking traffic and arrogantly refusing to move, he almost ran them over. Seriously.

  7. Your boyfriend should take the bus if something as impersonal and basic as traffic makes him want to cause bodily injury to others. Seriously.

  8. austin, they were annoying as hell. They met at 5pm at the Shipwreck, and were arrogant to a point, walking or riding across the street into oncoming rush hour traffic, so as to get to the back door at Alki Bike and Board. They blocked the sidewalk so pedestrians had a hard time maneuvering, and seemed totally disorganized. Great that they decided to have this ride, not so great that they thought they were more important than the people who live in the 'hood. Some more consideration next time would be nice. Might help their karma, and bicyclists reputations in general.

I just got home from the Admiral mess. No problems re. me maintaining cool and just chillin' with it and it seemed all the other drivers in "my pack" at least were doing the same; I'd say there were a good half-dozen cyclists trying to push my button along the way (swaggering into the one lane left for cars, bolting out in a group to ride across the middle of the street, one profanity yelled at me for no reason other than eye contact), though. It all left me completely unsympathetic as I passed the poor soul who'd taken a serious dive--definitely needed an ambulance, I'd say--at the top of the hill.

Seriously curious ... Is there something real to be gained by this kind of demonstration? I'm not a cyclist at all, but I've never had an issue, close call, or whatever with any.

  10. That would be the Dead Baby Downhill racers. Not surprised to hear they had a bit of an attitude, but I wouldn't generalize their behavior to cyclists in general.

  11. I saw a group of the DBD racers on my way home. Yes, they were riding recklessly. But don't generalize that all cyclists are like that. It's just like most drivers are really cool, but there's a few that aren't, but we sure notice the bad eggs quicker than the good ones.

Idiots use many different number of wheels.

  13. Hey, it's all fun and games until someone gets killed. Then its time to start pointing fingers. Riding without head gear, nice!
