Friendly Volunteer Needed for Disabled Senior -- Includes Free Smiles in Return!

  • Started 7 months ago by VCSinWS

  1. A young senior gentleman lives alone in his apartment on the 2nd floor of a small building with no elevators. He has a lot of trouble with mobility due to neuropathy and numbness in his legs, and has trouble going up and down the stairs, especially while carrying things like groceries. He has trouble because he cannot bend down to clean the floors especially and he falls quite often when he tries to do things. He'd like someone to help him do his laundry (either in the laundry room in his basement, or you could take it home or to a laundromat), and help carrying groceries up his stairs--maybe meet him when you know he'll be about to arrive home with groceries? Your support would mean the world to this sweet man.

Help with simple tasks like these can make a real difference in someone’s life.

Volunteer Chore Services, a program of Catholic Community Services, is a "safety net" for elders and adults living with disabilities who are unable to afford chore help or are ineligible for state/paid chore services. All recipients are low-income, have health problems or difficulty with mobility, and most live alone. We carefully match volunteers to opportunities based on their personalities, neighborhood, and preferences.

There are hundreds of seniors in Seattle waiting for help, and a shortage of volunteers. As the budgets for human services are in trouble all over the country, programs like Volunteer Chore Services are essential to help our most vulnerable citizens. Volunteers are needed all over Seattle and South King County.

For more information on how you can help, please call Kerrie Carbary, the volunteer coordinator in your area, at 206-328-6858, Volunteer Chore Services main intake line at 206-328-5787, or email kerriec@ccsww.org.
