What does NV need today? Anything different due to upcoming change in weather?

  2. very good question.
i contacted Scott Morrow this morning by email about the need for pumps to start pumping the melting snow before it becomes a flood..

he told me that they have one pump at camp now...

but if anyone has a heavy duty pump they can lend them for a few days that would eliminate the need to pay for a rental pump

they basically live in the third basin of a containment pond system and in the last flood they literally found themselves flooded...

pumping out does make a huge difference.

    and... it's wet.

they need dry gloves, dry socks, waterproof boots, etc>>>

Perhaps the camp will take money toward pump rental? I have other misc items that I'm going to take, but want to be as efficient/helpful as possible.

Maybe its time to pursue a different venue. There are empty hangers past Georgetown at the airport. Has anyone contacted the County or Boeing if they have any available?

  6. velo...there are empty bldg.s all over the place, and yet the city can't seem to even want to try to help.

icrijon: that's great if you'd like to contribute money toward a pump. JoB is organizing that effort. If you e mail joanne at brayden dot org she can get back to you on the particulars.

JoB, that's awesome. I'll reach out to you directly, but my husband and I went ahead and made a delivery of the normal warm goods that we had extra of and then we stopped at Home Depot and got large tarps and stakes to cover tents, batteries, ponchos, boots, anything rain gear related. Also, had waterproof boots for the NV mom son and hopefully daughter or mom (depending on show size). We bought specifically for the son, donated mine to the mom/daughter. When we took them to the donation site, specified for the son/daughter on the boots, hope they get to them. Person at the gate wasn't very informative or conversational, so we didn't get any other ideas of needs. Perhaps it was "us" because it was our first time with in-person donations. Hopefully things are going well today with this break in the weather - minus the wind. It's been awesome to watch how our community has stepped-up for their needs during this tough week. Thanks for all you and the other donors have done. It's sad to think about how many people are just one paycheck away from homelessness. And, of course, I'm not that naive, realize some are simply in that circle.

  10. icirijohn..

we just missed one another other at the gate...
i saw all those tarps... you brought exactly what they needed...

I think the boy got boots yesterday but if he did there is still plenty of need for size 12 boots in camp.

the girl has a women's size 10 foot.. but again... any size boots will get used down there and are gratefully appreciated.

i also think it's wonderful the way the community is helping out down there. It's especially fun to meet one another.

i really look forward to meeting you. You'd be surprised how many of us have met over the berm:)
