I saw a fox this morning run across Fauntleroy and in to Lincoln Park. The last posting on this blog regarding a fox was three years ago. Anyone know anything about this?

The neighborhood foxes seem to be a little more elusive than the coyotes, probably mostly due to their size. But I saw a fox in the area around Charleston and 49th darting into a yard a couple months ago. There are lots of big yards and greenbelts for them to hide in so it could have been the same animal or at least the same family, or whatever a group of foxes is called.

I didn't even know there were foxes in Seattle! I lived on Vashon for 8 years and never saw one there. Wow!

When I lived on top of Queen Anne, I used to see them trotting down the sidewalk at dusk. There was a feral cat colony on the slope off Highland Drive, and the foxes would go there for free snacks - sometimes of the feline variety. There were several dens, one underneath the Magnolia bridge. They are beautiful animals.

I went to elementary school at Schmitz Park and our mascot became the fox while I was there because there was a family of foxes that used to come through the fence from the park. The teachers would have to block off that corner of the playground because they would sometimes be out there during recess. One of my coolest memories. :-)

  7. Thanks for letting us know. Last fox siting I had was maybe 7 years ago, on the steep road between Admiral and Alki. It was evening and this very beautiful fox was trotting down the road. I had heard that the coyotes might've pushed foxes out of the 'hood.

There used to be foxes when there was a green belt behind what was K-mart. There were also foxes in the green belt that edges Westcrest Park. I'm not sure if that green belt is still intact. :-(

sweetflutterby41 Thanks for the walk down memory lane. I too remember the foxes on the playground at that time.

Go play WS Golf Course - 50/50 shot at seeing the little rascals with all the green belt and stream banks...
