I found a largish bag tonight containing schoolwork that has the name Katie Stover on it, but no contact info. It was sitting next to a pole outside the Limber Yoga/martial arts place on 42nd near Alaska. It's a little wet -- it was getting rained in!

Have you though of calling the schools and saying you found a backpack belonging to Katie and could they check to see if there was a Katie registered? Although they probably won't say (privacy rights).
i once found a zippered folder containing all kinds of paperwork for someone pursuing eagle scout.
there were phone numbers for the scout master and also the home number of the owner.
i called both...leaving messages that i had it. no one ever called me back.
