Found a baby bird - how can I help him?

  1. Just noticed a baby bird crouched on the cement on the side patio. No parents fluttering or calling nearby, no overhead tree he could have fallen out of. I'd like to keep neighborhood cats from mauling him, and also while he's currently in the shade, the sun is moving. What should I do?

I've carefully put him in a large cardboard box in the shade with some netting over it for now...

  2. I have to head out the door soon and don't have time to look up links, but maybe contact Sarvey Wildlife, or PAWS?

I think there may be at least one more organization specifically for birds, but don't recall the name.

Good luck and good on ya for your concern for this little guy!

  4. Happy ending, I hope: I thought it looked like a robin, but when I went outside and robins were agitating around, that clinched it. Noticed a big camellia shrub nearby with some bird droppings under it; looked up inside the bush for a nest and there it was. Got a stepladder, and the parents really got loud when I carefully scooped him up (while wearing a soft glove) and placed him back in the nest. I saw the parents fly into the camellia bush and all is quiet now, so hopefully the fledgling is ok, and they're ok with him being back.

  5. ...or maybe they're wondering why there's a baby sparrow in their nest!
