There's always the search tool bar here uptop if you remember some of the thread or topic to help refresh your memory.

  4. One of my faves - not sure what category it would be under...is : SWiWS. I never knew where they were, but it was very enlightening...love things about the little quirks about our community ! So...maybe it would fall under "Best Thread" category :)

  7. Chupacabra thread was hilarious. It should definitely win some award.

The Chupacabra Craze was 2010. I remember meeting some chupie posters at the W. Seattle Street Fair a year and a half ago. I think the Raise the Speed Limit on Admiral was in 2010, too and that was certainly a well-attended thread.

I'm a lurker and read WSB Forums avidly. I used to read all threads ever posted but now I read and skip particular threads based on the names of commenters listed. It has just gotten so negative in the last six or nine months, I can't give certain people my brain space. Of course I learn from people I disagree with, but I just tune out when things get dogmatic and viscious. I also have a short list of (unnamed) folks I follow because they post "trainwreck" entries and I can't not look! I feel just as disgusted with myself about it as I do watching trash TV...

BUT to focus on the positive, best posts in my book are the SWIWS and other photo-commentary pieces by DP/DBP. I loved the Occupy Olympia post for instance. DP, I might be your biggest fan. Even if I don't agree with everything you say!

  9. Darn... you're right, MercyMoi. Chupacabra wasn't started in 2011. Seems like only yesterday. :)

I completely agree with you about the forums. Can't dwell in that negativity anymore so I've pretty much checked out as well, based on who is posting. And... DP has provided some of the best laughs ever!

I nominate "miws" for best forum community liaison. Despite difficulties getting a signal at Nicklesville, and his own health issues, he's keeping us very well-informed about their needs and current events.

  11. I've sometimes thought it would be fun to have a nominate button - to nominate for the Best Of - kind of like they do/used to do on Craigslist.

How about a topic that riles folks up the most? I nominate off-leash dogs.

they might well top the chart for the number of posts on any one subject...

  15. I'd have to say children and pets, treatment of, off leashness of, presence of are all forum firestarter topics. After that, noises and objects that belong to others intruding into one's personal comfort zone. Covers anything from hums to sofas dumped on the front lawn.

Political threads may have higher amounts of comments, but if you look through them, there are fewer actual posters. Due to the nature of politics and the back and forth.

Gina, in regard to the political posts I have also noticed a tendency for some folks to post 6 or 7 times in a row with no responses from anyone else. Mostly they are just cutting and pasting their beliefs from other sites. . . .

I, too, vote for SWIWS. One of my favorite topics. It appears both conservatives and liberals can enjoy the same posts without too much arguing. . . .

if you also look at number of comments after articles on the home page, it gets even more interesting. There definitely are a lot of hot topics there (speed enforcement, esp on Admiral, snow, bus changes, restaurants, etc.) that don't get a lot of play in the Forum. And, there seem to be a lot of people who comment on articles who don't comment in the Forum (and maybe vice versa, but it's hard to tell because you don't have to stick with your screen name on the home page); I think some of this is due to WSB's becoming more visible to the non-WS public as well as their frequent first place appearance in search engine results.

I would second or third the nomination of miws for everything he has done to keep Nickelsville in our thoughts; JoB would run a close second.
