FCAT: National Feral Cat Day (October 16)

  1. Friends, Romans, Cat-rymen
    Lend me your ears!

I'm just going to clip a little off the tip, see? That way everyone will know what good kiti-zens you are.

    **************************************************************************************

Today is National Feral Cat Day, and in celebration of this day, Pamela "Cat Lady" Staeheli has trapped no less than 64 feral cats and brought them in for a special clinic conducted by the Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Project.

    Huzzah!

    More info here: http://www.alleycat.org/

Pamela asked me to post these photos so you can see how streamlined and efficient the process is:

Step 1: Check-in at the FCAT Bed & Breakfast, somewhere in Burien.

Deluxe high-rise units; some suites are still available!

Step 2: The Cat-mobile picks you up at your door and whisk[er]s you right over to your appointment.

Step 3: Here we are at the clinic.

Another clinic shot. (Why am I suddenly in the mood for a game of chess?)

  2. Pamela would also like me to point out the following:

    1) Of the 64 cats she trapped and brought in, 42 were females

    2) Each adult female cat can produce up to 8 kittens per year.

    3) After about 6 months, each female out of those 8 kittens will be sexually mature and will be producing 8 MORE KITTENS!!!

    4) After 5 years how many kittens does that equal? Don't bother reaching for the calculator, because I can tell you exactly how many kittens.

    5) A lot of freaking kittens!*

    * FYI: One of Pamela's favorite numbers is "a lot of freaking [whatever] "

  3. 1,680 kittens would have been born.

I have 11 more from this site. FYI the city of Des Moise has a law against feral cats, yet they will not do anything about them, nor can you take them anywhere to be killed. So the city is the one to blame on this one.

  4. Ready for your daily Awwwwww ?

    O-tay! Here it is . . .

    From Pamela (DP paraphrase):

These kittens were among the 65 cats I trapped for National Feral Day. I trapped them all at three adjacent trailer parks over a period of three days.

People at the parks had been putting food out for the cats and there were so many around there that I caught 15 in just a few hours, just by driving around looking for them. When I saw some cats in an area I'd put a trap there.

I picked up six kittens in all, but the others were just too old to find "forever" homes, so I released them back into the wild. These two I will try to adopt out.

Unfortunately, the Siamese might not make it. She's showing signs of FIP (Google it!) and it is terminal. But at least she won't die out there, suffering. Death from FIP is not a pretty death.

As for the little fluffy one, well he is SO cross-eyed he does not see well. Plus, the little guy has ringworm. —Yeah, I know: OMG ringworm!! Cats don't die from that, though. It's really just like athlete's foot. Anyway, Cross-eyes is on the mend now.

–Pamela, I could just hug you.

But then when you said that about ringworm I went Ewwwwwww!!!!!!!!

    {Blog Hug!}

  5. Ringworm? pshhhh. No big deal. I'm actually glad you added the "ew" DP, because it really is misunderstood...not a worm, but yeah, fungus like athlete's foot. As a volunteer, it breaks my heart when I hear that some shelters put animals down for a minor skin irritation rather than use a little Lotrimin cream from the drug store. That fluffy guy is quite a character and starting to bounce around like a superstar! Can you imagine what would happen to professional sports if...never mind ;)
