  1. I'll include Burien in this request for ease, but what is everyone's favorite independent book store? I have to admit I've spent too much time on amazon.... what's your local favorite?

  2. For used books, definitely Pegasus Books up in the WS Junction. I could spend days in there. :) I don't know of any good new booksellers in the area since Square One went out of business.

  3. The independent book store I enjoy most is Third Place books in Lake Forest Park. Number two is University book store, and number three is Elliott Bay Books. Amazon beats Barnes & Noble in the giant chain competition in my opinion.

The book shops in the Junction I lump together for one big browse. Including the Antique Mall, you can find some interesting odd books in there.

I second the Pegasus Books recommendation for second hand books… great selection and the owner/staff are all super friendly and very approachable, some of my favorite fantasy finds have been from recommendations they have given. For new books, I branch out to other areas of the city and spend equal time at The Seattle Mystery Book Shop on Cherry Street in Pioneer (their selection truly encompasses the entire mystery genre, everything from modern police procedurals to fantasy/sci-fi detective stories… again can not say enough great things about the staff!), Eliot Bay up on Capitol (oh how I heart Eliot Bay - especially their great art/small print publisher selections), and Third Place books in Ravenna (they have new and used books and the super cozy bar/pub located in the basement of the building is a favorite with my book group).

  5. Secret Garden in Ballard has books for all, but a focus on kids' books. Been a long time since I've been there, but remember them having a large selection. I too love Pegasus. They are always incredibly helpful and friendly.
