   Do we have one anymore? I need to buy some iron on appliques, something other than a blue strip of fabric, something fun. Anyone know if Hancock Fabric is coming back to West Seattle?

   Hancock was supposed to come back with the Whole Foods building, which is currently a hole in the ground. I think if they come back depends on the fate of that whole project.

   The closest fabric store to W. Seattle is Pacific Fabrics Outlet on 4th. Call if they have Appliques because it is their outlet so they don't have all the little stuff you would normally find. They do have a good selection of basics though like thread, needles, and other notions.

   They are also their main store for upholstery and outdoor fabrics.

   Other than that you have to go down to Southcenter for Joanns or Michaels or up to Northgate for the regular Pacific Fabric Store.

   There is an AWESOME quilting store on Vashon. It is called Island Quilter and it has beautiful textiles. They would not likely carry appliques since they cater to quilters, but those of you jonesing for fabric it is sooooo worth the ferry ride to find your next project. I just googled Island Quilter, Vashon and their website came right up: http://www.islandquilter.com.

   I loathe driving to Southcenter. There is a Jo Ann's in Ballard.

   I've never actually been in Seattle Yarn on California but they might carry stuff other than yarn and yarn accessories.

   Seattle Yarn is a great yarn shop but they are pretty much just yarn and some felting. I've never seen appliques there.

   Northwest Art and Frame might have one or two, or the fabric printer paper to make your own kind of stuff. I know they have fabric markers and dyes so they might just have a couple appliques.

   Seems to me I did see some appliques at the Pac Fabrics on 4th when I was there last, but since it's an outlet I guess you can't be sure what they do or don't have at a given time.

   I hate the drive to Southcenter too, but the JoAnn's Superstore there has a MUCH better selection than the one in Ballard, IMO. I usually take 509 to get there, and combine the trip with stops at Trader Joe's and other Burien stores.

   Thanks to everyone for all your suggestions! I need to appliques (preferable iron on) for my daughters jeans to cover a hole or got when outside on the swing and torn a nice hole on the left pocket of her jeans. I wanted to find something big enought to coer the hole but also cute and not to custy since she is nearly 10 years old. I think I will start my search at the Outlet and move on to Southcenter or maybe Ballard if need be. I really miss not having Hancock in West Seattle, and remember there use to be a craft store in Burien and also Michaels on Corson? Between the bolwing alleys, skating places and now fabric stores what can be next to leave? I already checked Fred Meyer, Rite Aid and Bartells without any luck.

    It's funny how I didn't think anything of Hancock's "temporary" closing before it happened, but the number of times I wished it were still there when I needed it (was the torture of Southcenter really worth getting some fiber fill?) needs at least two hands to count!

    Poor Hancock. They got super screwed.

    Through a reliable grapevine I have heard that Hancock might be looking for a different spot in West Seattle. This might be true since the company didn't want to leave the area. Hopefully they can find one since not having a fabric store really sucks.

    I've spent a few minutes trying to think of a space that Hancock could afford. The Huling Buick showroom - doesn't someone have dibs on it? - would be too rent pricey. An empty grocery store? Boot out Walgreens on 35th or Rite Aid on California? If we could convince that poorly run Mervyns at WWV to say good bye, that would be a huge coup. Anything empty along Delridge?
