Experience with Bilingual preschools in West Seattle?

  1. Hello!

I will be moving with my husband and three year old to West Seattle this summer and would like to enroll my daughter in a bilingual Spanish preschool. I have come across Cometa and South West Early Learning Center. If anyone had any feedback on these schools--positive, negative, or neutral--I'd be grateful. Also if I am missing any schools, that would be good to know too.

    Thank you very much! Char

There is also Europa Kids which runs a Spanish/German bilingual program. If you do the full day program the kids get spanish half day and german half day.

You can also do a half day program where you pick either Spanish (morning) or German (afternoon).

We went to their open house about a month ago and it seems like a really neat program. My DD is a bit young yet so we were checking into it for the future.

My 5 year old son has attended Europakids since he was 3 and he loves it. The program is phenomenal. They truly love what they do, and love and nurture the children. We feel like we hit the preschool jackpot with Nicole, Colin and their wonderful teachers. They have a full day and half day program, and are about to expand by opening up a second location with a full day program. There is quite a wait list, but I would think now would be a good time to contact them with the new location opening up. Good luck to you.

Both of the programs at Southwest Early Learning are excellent and have educated teachers who are still improving their professional development.
Also take a look at the preschool at Roxbury and 30th, kitty-corner from Roxhill Elementary. I understand that the teacher their speaks English and Spanish. I know nothing more about that center except that they recently had opening(s).

I just wanted to add my 2 cents. My son is currently enrolled at Cometa and has been there since he was three. He has one more year, and we will miss it, sniffle. I/we have been very happy with our experience and my son is thriving. They a lot of musical activities and art as well as basic academics as well as the occasional field trip. They are kind and gentle and we love Maesta Manuela. They are located near WS High School North of the Junction. Feel free to contact me with any questions.

My daughter attended Cometa from Fall of 2008 to Spring of 2009, and we loved it so much that we enrolled her in one of the Summer camps as well. The teachers and caregivers are truly wonderful people who work closely with you to meet the individual needs of each child, while also helping them get used to/adapt to a group setting. The students go on outings, do a lot of hands-on learning through crafts, music and even occasionally preparing their own foods. They have time for both structured and free play, and work on both their early academic and social skills. We made a number of friendships during our time at Cometa, thanks to the close-knit feel of the school and the encouraged participation in all the fun activities Maestra Manuela & staff planned. It was truly bittersweet to celebrate the graduation of those moving on, because we really did fall in love with the place and the people. But we keep in touch, and I have a son who will be of pre-school age in the Fall, so we're excited to return. My daughter has obtained a great deal of the Spanish she learned, and I love watching her ability to follow conversations when we're out and about, or teach her little brother through song. As esheymc also posted, above, please feel free to contact me with any questions about Cometa!

  7. We love Cometa, too! My son has been enrolled there for this school year and he takes his time to adapt to new situations. Maestra Maneula and Maestra Vilmari have been so patient, loving, gentle, and kind with him. Manuela really appreciates the unique qualities in each child. She has been exceptionally patient through our potty training ordeals this year. We are very happy with the high quality experiences that he's had this year and plan for him to return for the next 2 years. Cometa is definitely a gem!
