Just wondering if any fellow WSB neighbors had any Euros that had brought back from Europe that they were wanting to sell. I know I can order them from the bank, but I thought I might be able to help someone else out at the same time.

  3. I would like to buy a Euro too. I would also like to buy a British pound coin, assuming there is such a coin. I have tried the coin shop in the Junction, but they have not had either on a couple of different visits. Perhaps I will give eBay a try.

I'm not going anywhere, I just want one or both just to have one.

  4. There is a one pound coin, which apparently replaced the paper note back in the 80's. Shouldn't be too hard to find one. Maybe even at a bank.

  5. Kevin: I've got some Pound coins. I used to live and work in London and still go there frequently. I'll hook you up.

  6. I don't have any to sell ( will probably use them in the near future) but Kevin, I don't know how you we can arrange this but I probably have a pound coin and a Euro kicking around and would be happy to contribute to your collection!

My son is headed to Italy in early November, and I am hoping to have some Euros in his pocket when he lands. Anyone have any to get rid of.... but must be $1 coins or bigger up to $100. Sorry Elenator -- I used to have Lira.... but threw them away a few years ago when Italy went to Euro. I will see a friend next week that might have some and will ask.

There are ATMs there and they do dispense Euros. A debit card in hand is not much different than cash in hand. . . . .

  16. Yes, ATM's are handy. They also generally give you a more favorable exchange rate. However, the ATM fees (from the bank who owns the ATM and your own bank), as well as the foreign transaction fees, can really add up.

I prefer to place an order for foreign currency from my bank before I leave Seattle. It only takes a couple of days for the cash to come back. My bank gives me a choice of having it delivered either to the branch or via Fed Ex to my house. There is a fee, but it is less than the total ATM fees I would otherwise pay.

It is nice to have local currency in your pocket as soon as you arrive, without the burden of having to schlep around looking for an ATM. I find it helpful to have money in my pocket to tip porters, taxi drivers and hotel bellmen, etc. So specifying small bills when you order currency from the bank is essential.

Except for the foreign transaction fees and foreign currency exchange fees...

Doesn't the airport still have an exchange window? I know its probably not the cheapest/best rate but...agree regarding CC fees the banks charge on exchanges. Stopped using my card in Canada.

If your son is planning on using his card over there, DO NOT forget to call the bank and let them know!
