Friday afternoon I took my son to the Delridge Skateboard Park. After I witnessed 2 drug sales I took my son and left. There were no other adults in sight. I spoke with the person at front desk of the recreation center and he admitted a lot of problems at the skateboard park. He said the park fills up with teens around noon (even during school days) and for which he was surprised no one has raised that as a concern; then he says there are often fights between adults wanting to use the skatepark with teenagers using the skatepark. He wasn't surprised with the drug sales.
The first drug sale was in the parking lot between two teenagers meeting their dealer. I gave the license plate of the buyer to Seattle Police. The second drug exchange happened at the skatepark amongst teens around 15 years old.

Under no circumstances should a child be left at that park by themselves!

I did call police after I left, but never hear back.

I haven't witnessed any drug deals at the park, but I have smelled marijuana almost every time I have run by it. This makes me sad because I think the skatepark is such a great opportunity.

  3. "I gave the license plate of the buyer to Seattle Police."

"I did call police after I left, but never hear back."

Maybe you didn't hear back from them because YOU CALLED POLICE ABOUT MARIJUANA AT A SKATEPARK!

"Under no circumstances should a child be left at that park by themselves!"

I agree. Not just delridge, but no skatepark is a safe place for children. You skate at your own risk. Putting a child into a skatepark that has teenagers and full grown men doing high speeds in every direction will no doubt end in a collision.

Soccer is great for children and skateboarding is a great activity for pot smoking teenagers(and for those who dont smoke pot as well).

Parks are no longer the peaceful place they are meant to be when they are built. Security in these places need to be tighter cause parks and children should really go hand in hand.

  5. Skateboarders didn't invent drug dealing and anti-social behavior. It just sounds to me like the Southwest Precinct needs to take a more active role in engaging with the users of this part of the park. If you observe something illegal going on, PLEASE call the police and report it.

    Thanks.

  6. Actually, The Seattle Police were told by I-75 and a Pot friendly Mayor to put Marijuana at the bottom of the issues they deal with on a daily basis. Although illegal due to Federal Law, the Marijuana lobby has been successful in making Pot almost as legal as cigarettes without the stigma.

Regardless, if I see a drug deal, I too will report it.

But many of you voted for this junk. You voted for the people in power and now we get to live with the consequences. It hurts society, our kids, and our city. Thanks A Lot.

And parents need to take an active role. If there is enough outrage from parents, then the police will elevate their presence.

I will still take my son there every so often. I will not let the rabble win.

I should clarify the drug deal in the parking lot was pot...however the drug deal in the skatepark was crack and/or heroin...definately not pot! There must be equal concern for any drugs because unlike some posts here adults need to set an example for kids; if kids see one drug is ok (b/c adults are doing it) then why not other drugs?

We CANNOT abandon this park it's a great idea, great for the neighborhood and I'll continue to frequent and call the police. We can't give up on any of these kids or OUR community.

For those those who think this is a trivial issue and continue to purchase pot (or any drugs) here in Seattle...you are responsible for the 40,000+ deaths experienced in Mexico since the beginning of the drug wars there; that's where the garbage is coming from.
