   hi i am not catholic and have narrowed my choices between holy rosary and west seattle montessori for my daughter who will start kindergarten next fall. I visited both schools, and like them both. I did really like westside but it is out of my budget. i hear both provide a good education. one is religious and other is not. i would love to hear any insight or details or experiences you have had with either. thank you. ruby2go

   Have you checked out Hope Lutheran? The School/Church are just down the block from Holy Rosary, at 42nd and Oregon Street. Hope Lutheran school is wonderful, both of my children went to school there. The school is K-8 along with pre-school. Give them a look and I'm sure the price is comparable to that of Holy Rosary.

   I can't speak to the Catholic school, but my children went to WS Montessori for their preschool and very early elementary and we were 100% happy; they all 3 got off to a great start that serves them well as they advance through schools in public and then later, private. My kids were advanced (far above grade level) when they went over to public school in 3rd grade, and it was due to the education they got at WS Montessori. Very highest recommendations!

   I have two girls going in to kindergarten, both at West Seattle Montessori. On in Purple Class, one in Green Class. They went there for preschool also. We are very happy there; so happy that we are paying good money and driving a lot further than our free local public school, Lafayette. I agree with everyone else on these threads, that it is a great school and provides a great headstart for children providing benefits for their later years of education. But another big reason quite frankly is that it is incredibly mommy friendly. The flexibility of free before-school care has really saved me sometimes when i am trying to squeeze in a dentist appointment or need a little extra time. And the super flexible and inexpensive after school care has been a godsend when I need and extra hour here and there after school. And it surprised us how much we are enjoying other families... We thought about Holy Rosary but I do not have a religious background so it was just not the right fit for us. Best of luck in your decision. Let us know how it turns out!

   I was impressed with Hope Lutheran. We sent our kid to Kindergarten there and by the end it seemed like she was reading and doing math at one or two levels above some public schools.

   Got mine through HR ... gotta say though... the longer game is how that works for HS... no question HR is a "feeder" to some great Catholic HS ... I "hear" many parents are very happy with the Lutheren HS here is WS. Good thing about both systems.... K-8 concept I am sold on. That middle school thing in PS system should be revisited. Taking all that pre=teen angst, collecting it all under one roof...without a faculty/administration in depth knowledge of the family etc... I think it is more stressful. Some are ready to rocket out of "elementary school" many are not... keeping some kids longer in a known, safe environment... is a wise choice.
