Crown Victorias/abandoned vehicles

Does anyone know a more effective way to take care of these cars that sit for weeks and months? Calling the abandoned line gets a sticker put on which the owner just scrapes off. The owner is suppossed to move the car but that doesn't always happen so it sits in the same spot. If the city keeps any record of plates, they should be able to tell that these cars have had the orange sticker put on for a couple of years in a row.. How long before something is really done about this? Most importantly, why would someone want to own more vehicles than they can drive/park at where they live? Seems like it is almost always these old police cruisers some one got for a dime. What gives?!

  2. Good question, and one that affects a lot of people.

Usually people who do this are off in unincorporated county land with enough property to accumulate derelict vehicles for years but sometimes the car rancher mentality ends up inside city limits. Unfortunately the city doesn't do much beyond what you're describing to put a halt to the extreme offenders. Why people do this is really what fascinates me. Compulsive car auction attendee? Angry at society? Doesn't realize it's not within acceptable social norms? Really, I'd like to see a study done.

Yeah, interesting. I participated in the linked discussion but wondered if anyone had any new info on this plague.

  4. WSRats, how about we just turn blast the city with complaints via their website? I have a list of the make/model/color/plates, just need the most recent location to give em the business..

Have you noticed that the same black one has been sitting in the street South of the Charlestown Cafe since WSB took a picture the day they re-opened....

LOL - spray paint them in the middle of the night with something like "move this p.o.s.!"

  7. mella, that is one of the NICER thoughts... and whoever owns these things has some issues, they all have one of those big plastic bins in the back seat. Wierd.

It certainly is odd. Someone must have gotten them for a song..

I'm just concered about keeping our Admiral/Genesee area from going down hill. The slippery slope theory. Abandoned / junk vehicles just scream undesirable area to me.
