Crime rising in West Seattle?

  1. Or am I just more aware? It seems like we are experiencing more property crime...

    Any thoughts

  2. Well I don't doubt it. After all in my neighborhood alone nearly 2000 white people have moved in since 2006 and now no one can sell their home and the property values are falling.

yikes - For details on crime trends in WS, go to the Tuesday, Feb 17th meeting of the West Seattle Crime Prevention Council. 7-8:30 at the SW Precinct near Home Cheapo on Delridge Way. You could then pose your question directly to SPD. The WSCPC is a great resource:)

For as bad a rap as High Point used to get, it seems like it doesn't get as much bad pub now.

It's the worst I've seen it since the 80's when we used to hear gunfire nearly every night coming from the old Highpoint area. I looked at Redfin and this zip code,98136, has a really high crime rate now.It has never looked like that. Higher than all the rest of W.Seattle, I don't get it.I don't like it either.

Oh My God!!! I live in 98136!

Air Strikes and Carpet Bombing is the solution...

    HaHaHa!
No really, did you look at Redfin?? Every single marker is more than 2 times above the national average in this zip. Car thefts are over 5 times higher. The rest of W.Seattle is much lower.I think it is rather odd myself.I cannot help but wonder what in particular is different here. Not like I am going to call out the Airforce or Marines. They don't let me do that anyway.
    Too bad.

  8. I noticed that too when I looked at Redfin. Thought it was strange because I haven't heard of too much in my neighborhood. Our neighbors were burglarized but they are a block behind us and the block behind us is 98126.

Anyone notice the two F-15's from the Oregon - Air National Guard circling overhead? I watched them refuel with a C-130 a few minutes ago...I guesstimated they were at around FL350...

  10. Don't know that I would trust a third-party pulling stats, Redfin or no. You can check crime stats yourself at http://seattle.gov/police - including first half of 2008. We had maps recently from the PD and they showed major incidents fairly well scattered around WS. We have lived in 98136 for 16 years and (knock wood) it's pretty darn quiet.

  11. Our home broken into yesterday between 11am-2:30pm.
Live in near 38th and Willow. Anyone who saw police around Willow and 37th and 36th, we were
looking for my distraught son who had his I-pod,
Zune, Playstation, all games, shoes, hats and coats taken. Police told me burglaries are on the rise in the Gatewood and High Point area. If anyone saw anything during that time you can PM me. Thank you!!
Pretty sure we were bitten by some we've tried to help.

  12. What The, you need to organize the 98136 zip code militia. I shall order my dog and cats to leave land mines on the ground (the smelly kind) and that will also save the plastic(bag)trees.

  13. Funny you should mention doggy landmines.....

When our house was broken into, about 3 years ago, the burglar did step in our doggies poo. Then kicked in a window and left a perfect shoe print with all the details included. The police were so excited! From that print, they were able to look at the suspects shoe and make a perfect match. Go doggy vigilantes!

  14. Awesome story! I know the basset hound regiment meets for maneuvers on certain Sundays at the doggy park! Woof!

Another aspect of CSI that I really love! Shoe prints in the feces...

Dunno - sounds like the criminal was a kid considering the items stolen and most likely someone who knew what they were going after and where to find said goods...Sorry to hear that.

  16. What The,

Yes, in fact there is a person who did see a African American Male, about 6'1" in our yard around 12:15pm Saturday. Most break-ins happen during the daytime and know or have been casing you.

  18. Short answer to the question, yes. December
was down (Weather) Jan and Feb have seen a large spike up. You can see on the main page, offenders
are going in and right back out to the streets.
Police said most these crimes are from younger males teens and into early 20s and some drug users who have migrated here. thanks to Lt Paulsen for the info!

My wife noticed a group casing houses in the 98116 zip code yesterday around 11:30am. They were going house to house, peeking in windows, checking out locks and leaving behind business cards for a bogus landscaping company (no business license on record, no white pages listing, reverse phone # lookup found nothing). The police were called and given a full description.

Of course, unless the police catch the guys actually breaking into someone's house, there's very little they can do.

  20. H,

We were told to call 911 last night by the the Lt and the head of 911 whenever something didn't seem right. You did the right thing and may have prevented crime. Whats a cross street near you?
Helps everyone here become more vigilant!

I noticed a large group of women with strollers congregating at Starbucks on Alki this morning.... I think they were on there way to block the bike path.

Glocson - If that doesn't set off a "red flag" I don't know what will? Did you check to see if a seal pup was being disguised as a baby in one of the strollers?

    Posted 3 years ago #
  23. Gloc,

Thanks for the humor. It's needed after being
ripped of 2 times in 8 months, and having your car
prowled 5 times in 3 months. Yes I have a dog and
    a security system. Cameras coming.
