For those of you looking for a good dog, check out craigslist seattle pet section. More listings for really great dogs who need a home due to economic downturn. Just have to turn on your filter for those breeding dogs to make a buck, but this gives you the chance to see a dog in a normal setting. Petfinder classifieds are good. And many good dogs in shelters who need a chance.

  2. I couldn't agree more ws4ever! All 3 of our dogs are from shelters (KC shelter in Factoria and Seattle Animal Shelter in Ballard), and 2 are purebred dogs (Siberian Husky and Chihuahua). We didn't spend more than $75 for any of them, and 2 were saved from almost imminent euthanization. I can't imagine our lives without them. Please, save a pet, don't buy a pet!!

  3. While I wholeheartedly support adopting animals instead of buying them, I would actually recommend going through a reputable shelter or rescue instead of Craigslist. A shelter or rescue will screen the animals behaviorally and medically so you know exactly what you're getting into. Shelters and rescues are also much better at matching the animals to the potential adopters to make sure it's a good fit for you as far as energy level, size, shedding and grooming needs, etc. They don't want to just find a home for now - they want to make sure it's going to be a good fit for the life of the animal so they don't end up given up again.

Plus, if you adopt from a shelter or rescue, the pets come up to date on shots, spayed/neutered and usually microchipped.

  4. ALS well spoken. Adopting an animal is not that easy. I have turned many people down knowing the that kitten was not a good match.

With KCAC not taking in animals craig's list is the next option. You really have to weed the crap.
