Concrete Scraps - recommendations?

  1. I have removed a 1960's outdoor, concrete/rock walkway. Not sure if there is a need for broken up concrete scraps . . . but before I take it to the dump, does anyone know a more purposeful way to get rid of the scraps? The walkway was about 20 feet in length, 3 feet wide. The concrete is about 4 inches thick and broken up into varying sizes.

    Open to recommendations/suggestions.

    Thanks!

  2. Actually a lot of people use it for landscaping and fill. You can also try Bedrock in Ballard. They always have a free pile of concrete chunks.

  3. I think kootchman wants to build a broken concrete wall in his yard.. ;-)

Actually some landscapers may want it for fill or just bring it to concrete recycling.

  4. We had pretty good luck getting rid of our concrete on Craigslist.
It went out in several batches to different people. In the end we just wanted to get rid of the remainder, and found that it was cheaper to bring it to a recycler (we used Pacific Topsoil) than to the dump.

  5. jwws...Where is the concrete recycling place located? I've never been able to find a specific place to recycle concrete except for the Neighborhood recyle events held by the county at Evergreen high school in White Center. I just took a load of broken concrete walkway.
King County has a listing of area recycle events, check it out here:

  6. Here is another link from the King County Solid Waste Division website. It is a listing of area businesses that recycle CDL (Construction, Debris and Landscaping).

i think they charge $30 per yard to drop off broken concrete.

PTS will also deliver a "rock box" (10-yard dumpster) to your property if you have bigger quantities. they drop it, you load it, they pick it up. same deal with waste management. street use permits may be in order for those, unless you have an accessible driveway or yard.

there's also that gigantic place on SR900/MLK near skyway. contractor's concrete recycling, i believe. don't know about prices for getting rid of concrete, but i have bought used bricks there.

i reused my broken concrete and made a second patio space. i laid it out on paver base in a flagstone pattern and spread colored gravel between the pieces. it's permeable, it looks nice, i didn't have to pick it up 8 times or pay to get rid of it, and i kept it out of the dump.
