Anyone else in WS experiencing horribly slow internet through Comcrap? There's supposedly a wide-area outage, but I seldom believe what they tell me.

Off and on slowdowns are regular with our comcast service, including today.

My Comcast service seems to be about normal today (10/09)

It came back on around 9:00pm.

It's been brutally slow for 3 days. Tried to use on demand and it wouldn't even load because the connection was so slow. Can hardly watch a video online it's so slow!!!

We've had problems in Gatewood yesterday and today.

Anybody having issues with comcast Internet today? Mine went out 15 min ago here in Seaview. On hold on the phone with them now.

yesssss, email sign-on page keeps coming up as xfinity business (that I didn't sign up for) and whatever they're doing is causing the server to be too "busy"

Finally got through, and heard an automated message that said "we recognize your address is part of an area with a service outage" and that they were working on it. I won't be holding my breath. Off to a coffee shop, I guess.

Both my boss and a co-worker who work from their homes in West Seattle are down as well (they have Comcast Business class). They are located in the Delridge and Arbor Heights areas.

My mom has Comcast cable (she lives up in Shoreline) and is having a very strange problem with Channel 4 news. The audio blanks out for 1-3 words, then comes back, then does it again. This happens ONLY with Channel 4 and ONLY when the local news is on. Comcast has been out and can't figure it out. She just got a new DVR. Has anyone ever heard of such a problem before?

Totally messed up here in Highland Park. This time, it's *not* me or the dying laptop. Been going on here for three or four days.

Out here in North Admiral this morning (Thursday) for a couple hours. Impossible to get thru to Comcast tech service. Service restored sometime between 10 and 11 AM.

Well, in the five minutes since I b*tched @13, it's picked up.
But.
It has been doing this in cycles for *days*. And I couldn't get to email/login page or even to the speed test thingy...such a p*sser when people pay so much. I mean really, *what* is their excuse?
Grumbling and spitting with frustration.
Grrrr.Posted 1 year ago # -

It's not fast enough or solid enough yet to allow for online banking. My credit union is bumping off.

Same here - unusually slow service and sporadic outages for a couple of days. Called yesterday, they did a remote reboot of some type and it came back up. Down again this morning. Called and got an automated message that my address is part of a "known outage" that they are working on. Thank god for 3G!

Back up for me too. Every time we have an outage like this, I get a little more frustrated at my lack of options. Remind me again why Comcast is allowed to have a cable monopoly in Seattle? I'm too far away from the telco station to get fast DSL, so my only option for fast internet service is Comcast, the worst company in America (http://consumerist.com/2010/04/congratulations-comcast-youre-the-worst-company-in-america.html).

I get online mostly in the evenings and have been so fustrated lately. I will be checking my email and I can read two or three and then it will read "contacting the server..." and when I try to watch one of the shows I like to watch online the screen freezes but the audio will continue. Then the screen will catch up to the audio so I miss what is happening. Sometimes it feels like it takes hours to watch a show that is about 45 minutes.
I thought about switching to clearwire but wasn't sure how that would work since I have both a hardwired computer and a laptop (wireless).
I do wish that the city would open the bidding and invite other companies to provide coverage.
Why is only one company allowed to provide high speed?
When we were on dial-up there were many choices for internet providers.
I can't/won't do DSL.

Yahoo's down. :(

sporadic and slow service, AGAIN, the last couple days. today they told me it has to do with my splitter. whatever. comcast stinks.

have Qwest DSL here...never goes out ....
Posted 1 year ago # -
jan: i second that.
Posted 1 year ago # -
comcast is our provider at work and we had issues all day yesterday.
re:Qwest DSL- they told us they couldn't provide DSL service at our house which seems ridiculous; it's Seattle after all. we make do with Clearwire at home.
Posted 1 year ago # -
Sam-c...it's a shame that one has to "make do"..with a service like Clearwire. I'm surprised that people even use them at all, considering all the complaints I've heard. Paying for something to "make do" is sad...sorry about the Qwest thing. What part of WS are you in? Geez..I though Qwest went everywhere.

re: Clearwire: 'make do' is probably a strong way to put it, as we haven't had the extent of problems that JoB had. when we called tech support they got us the help we needed very quickly, the first time. I've also found the folks at the Westwood storefront helpful. the trouble we experience with Clearwire seems to coincide with trouble from our DTV converter, so sometimes I blame it on the 'atmosphere'
another note on the internet speed from Clearwire. before we got a new laptop, I blamed the speed on the internet service. on the old computer, it could take 1.75 hours to download an episode of Mad Men from iTunes. With the new computer it takes 15-20 minutes. same Clearwire service, different computers.re: Qwest: yeah, that is what we thought too after talking to the Qwest people at Southcenter. when their "up and running in 2 weeks" time limit ran out, we called to find out the deal. They said, sorry, guess we don't have DSL there after all. we are in Puget Ridge.
re: Comcast, I don't want to do business with them, similar sentiments to post # 20.

well, sam, that's the free market at work.
how dare you call it a monopoly!
to those of you who have had comcast outages/shortages lately: ask them if they'll prorate for loss of service. when they decline, ask them why their money is more important than yours.
my guess is that they'll just flip you the bird, send out another bill, and ask if you'd like to buy some more stuff.
