   I am looking for local church recommendations for our family of three. We are non-denominational and are seeking a vibrant Christian community. We would like a youthful, contemporary service (evening services would be great!). Any suggestions? Thanks!

   Hi there. No luck after you posted the same query four months ago? We had a few recommendations here then. Only thing that's changed around here that I know of is that at least one new church has opened:

   We go to Arbor Heights Community Church. The service is not so much contemporary, but it is very family friendly, the pastor is great and if your kid(s) are younger the young marrieds group is wonderful! There is a strong sense of community and love for God!

   Check out the Unitarians. Very liberal and non-judgemental. None of the institutionalized misogyny of the more conservative churches.

   Another option, not in WS, but they have great childrens programs. They are located east of the UW on Sand Point Way.

   Marshill is a cesspool of fundy anti science, theocratic, historical revisionist with a "hip" veneer for stealth purposes. Don't expose your children to bibolitry if you care for them.

   Spiritual living is a current window dressing of the old snakeoil "prosperity" gospel brand of fundies based on buying your way to heaven sent riches. At least the scientologist have a price list.

   The Unitarians at least do no harm and are open to reason.

   You can also be non denominational just fine at home. No one needs an intermediary to talk to their Deity.

   Wouldn't dream of debating your opinions, Mr. Ken, but one factoid there: Spiritual Living is actually the new name for the 80+-year-old Religious Science (not to be confused with Christian Science or Scientology) denomination.

   Sure, nobody needs an intermediary, but the request here was for a church. May not have much to do with Deity-addressing, given the increasing amount of social and community activities many churches have been offering lately (building the calendar every week, we notice this).

    Our family travels out of West Seattle via 99 to Seattle Unity Church. 3 blocks east of the north side of the 99 tunnel it's a very easy commute for Sunday 9 & 11 am services and week night programs (yoga, book groups, Wed. prayer service etc). The Sunday music and message is great and I find the community takes a positive approach to life, emphasizing the good in people and all of life.

    Tibbetts is a great church. Amazing kids program at Westside Unitarian, good mix of spiritual and community and openness towards others, and a very active group of couples with children. Good blend of people who are supportive of each others' beliefs without requiring everyone be the same.

    I happen to be kind of impartial since I am a pastor there, but I would have to recommend, based on what you're looking for, West Seattle Christian Church. It has a great kids program and contemporary service at 10:45 in our new activity center on 42nd Ave. We are non-denominational, very friendly and community loving with many areas of involvement in the West Seattle community including the Art Walk (ginomai artist community) and the Summer outdoor movie series. Doesn't have an evening service yet, but one is coming down the road. http://www.westseattlechristian.org

    Mars Hill or Guatalupe. Both offer a great experience.
