I'd like comments on Cafe Revo as we're (still) searching for a wedding rehearsal venue for October. Please comment on quality, price and suitable atmosphere/setting (for a rehearsal dinner).

I think it would be great for a rehearsal dinner. We were just in last week for dinner and the food was excellent and reasonably priced. But my favorite thing about this place is the warmth of the family that owns it. Other than Phoenecia, I can't think of another restaurant in Seattle that makes you feel as much a part of the family when you dine there. My only concern continues to be the noise level in their dining room. We were in on a Friday and the joint was hopping. Lots of hard surfaces for noise to reflect off of. You might pop in for a meal sometime between now and October and see what you think.

and...if you really want to save some money while trying it out...go to restaurant.com and buy a gift certificate....you pay 10 bucks, get a certificate for 25...although I think there's a special right now for $2. You would have to spend $35 at Revo to use it, but that would allow you to try an appetizer, plus entree, and maybe dessert - and you wouldn't have to fork over a lot of money to do it.

I have used one there, and they were very gracious about accepting it.

i am the dissenting vote... i think the place would fail on two counts.. too noisy and too expensive for the quality of the food..

but that is just my opinion..

if you like Mediterranean food.. i would contact the Phoenicia.. a small restaurant down on Alki beach...

the venue overlooks the sound.. the food is reasonably priced.. and they will treat you like family...

After the dinner.. if the weather holds.. you can walk hand in hand on the beach...

what more could you ask for?

When Vintagemary posted this query a few weeks ago she specifically ruled out Greek. I think Phoenicia would not work. I suggested Revo and still think that is a good choice. It is mid-ranged in price. When you have a rehersal dinner for 30 and presumably at a long row of tables placed together, not everyone is going to be able to talk to everyone anyway. I don't think the noise level should be a problem. Maybe its just me but I expect noise in Italian restaurants.

one of the nice things about the new Phoenecia is that not all the food is Greek/Mediterranean/Middle Eastern. It's very eclectic now...I'm just not sure they have the type of food that is wanted at a rehearsal dinner. They have lots of small plates, a wide variety of personal pizzas, and a few entrees....but it all sounds yummy.

flowerpetal.. the meditteranean food at Phoenecia covers a lot of territory...

JanS.. i think shared small plates are a great addition to a rehearsal dinner... they encourage shared conversation... a good thing when you have two new groups of families and friends getting together...

i forgot another great choice.. but at the moment it's name escapes me.. the turkish place next to Rite Aid...

the cost is similar to Cafe Revo.. they have incredible kabobs.. the space is beautiful and their banquet space pretty private... and there is plenty of parking next to the restaurant...

the menu is varied... i am particularly in love with an appetiser called Esme... but the kabobs and rice were main stream to satisfy my steak yearning out of town guests...

someone will supply the name:)

I love Revo. The food is amazing and reasonably priced. Great service. Like others have said, it might be a tad bit noisy.

I think that, if I was a guest at Phoenecia, I'd want one of every small plate - lol...they all sound wonderful...and the pictures on that website are mouthwatering...

I'll confess to never having eaten at Phoenicia. The website does make it much more tempting and your right JoB, it goes beyond the typical Mediterranean fare doesn't it? I may have to pay homage to them soon!
So have we decided? Shall we insist that Vintagemary try both Phoenicia and Revo? ;-)

flowerpetal, for the record, before Hussein passed away Phoenecia was totally different. It was mainly mediterranean food, white table cloths, more expensive. The food was wonderful, but it was more of a special occasion place. His family has reinvented it, and it's becoming THE place to go to, and not just for special occasions. It's had great reviews. :)

Jan, I went there for the first time last night (Phoenecia) and was very impressed with it. The small plates get a bit pricey if you want a few of them, but definitely worth it.

That said, I don't think it would make the best rehersal dinner place - too small (unless they closed it down just for the party), parking could be difficult, and I think it could get very expensive, very fast.

I've never hosted a rehersal dinner; traditionally it is an honor bestowed upon the groom's parents, right? I know many of those wedding traditions have gone out the window. I have been to more than a few rehersal dinners tho. Any typically the hosts have made (with the help of the kitchen) choices for the table. It seems a much more economical way of doing things rather than having each party to place their own order. If thirty guests order 2-3 small plates it would get pricey wouldn't it?
I know we are all waiting to see what Vintagemary and her family decide upon.

flowerpetal, I don't know how it's done here, but at these types of events back in the NYC area with my family/friends, we used to go to a restaurant where a limited menu was available (based on what the hosts planned with the restaurant) - so we'd get a choice, but it would be from a very limited menu (like one chicken/beef/fish/vegetarian meal). Kept prices down, plus made it easier for the kitchen when you aren't ordering 50 different meals at once.

If you had originally wanted La Rustica- I wouldnt recommend Cafe Revo. La Rustica is my favorite WS restaraunt and Cafe Revo just doesnt compare...

there's the rub.. you are likely to have a well developed palate if you were hoping for La Rustica... beachdrivegirl is right.. Cafe Revo won't be a good substitute...

Phoenecia and Ephesus will stack up...
as will the Bohemian .. and all are great spaces with somewhat reasonable prices...

there is a newish place in Burien called Baffi Bistro that has an incredible chef that also might be a great bet... he specializes in Italian seafood... with a preference towards seasonal food... i suspect he would shut the place down for you for a night... The space isn't as memorable as the other three... but the food is incredible..

and then of course there is the Fresh Bistro in the Alaska Junction... it won't be cheap.. but it will be worth it.

ther is also another small mediterranean place that its just opening up.. but they are too new to review if they are open yet.

good luck finding the perfect place...

seattle is a wonderful place to weekend just now:)

I was going to chime in for the Bohemian. Parking is a little difficult, but it's cozy and really cute. And the types of food they serve there and the portions would be pretty easy to do for a large group.

La Rustica has GREAT atmosphere and great food, but Cafe Revo is definitely a favorite. If La Rustica is in your price range though and you don't have a gigantic group - that'd be my pick. :)

and...again in Burien..Filiberto's on 152nd near Ambaum. It's their new location, used to be a mainstay on Des Moines Way near the airport. Their food was really good way back then, and I recently heard that it's a really nice place , although I haven't been since they moved.

Jan - When I used to live on Des Moines Mem. Dr. near Filiberto's that place never seemed to be open for business, yet there was a lot of activity going on inside.
We always had visions of it being a mafia front.

the service at the Bohemian really impressed me...

and there is something about the space that just makes you glad to be there...

i feel the same way about Ephesus...

I can't say enough good things about Phoenecia. We were there again last night and I continue to be impressed with every dish. I would highly encourage you to consider this as an option.

Thank you so much WS "friends." What a great help in finding a rehearsal dinner spot. We'll look into Cafe Revo, Phoenicia and Bohemia too. I contacted La Rustica (Ciao!)and the owner said they didn't have the room for our party. Oh well.

Yes, we are parents of the groom -- all 36 years old of him!

You've gotten some great suggestions (Phoenecia on Alki!) but, if for some reason they don't work out, please check out Ephesus on California Avenue.
