debmarkParticipantI was walking around the point by Colman Pool in Lincoln Park the other day and I see this giant excavator removing my favorite ancient stump off the beach. They loaded it on a big flat bed trailer and hauled it away! That stump drifted to that spot a half a dozen years ago in a great storm and that’s where the sea gods left it. Guess where it is now? Yesterday I see it sitting down on Alki Beach high and dry up in the sand. What the f**&!! And to make my tail puff up more they left a big mess behind in the grass and on the walkway where everyone walks and still have’nt cleaned it up. I bet that cost a lot of money. There is a broken up sea wall falling apart around the point. Sure seems a better idea to put our money into fixing that. What a waste.

WSBKeymasterFunny, unless this is a duplicate, I replied to it last night. Have been trying to solve the mystery, heard about this via e-mail and Facebook and then saw this last night. Got info from Parks and am wrapping up a story at the moment. On a side note, someone did spot a repair crew working on the Lincoln Park seawall … TR

zephyrParticipantThanks, JoB for bringing this up. I noticed the stump missing a few days ago too. That monster had been there for several years. It was fun to climb on and hang out around. At least it occurred naturally and wasn’t placed like the other two or three smaller stumps were up on the point. Why on earth did they spend that money and resources to remove it? Were they afraid for liability reasons or that it might be pushed further ashore by more King tides?
The lawn and grounds were torn up considerably by this operation as you noted. And I agree that the money could have gone into the seawall repair that is needed and will surely worsen as the winter progresses. Bring back the stump! ~z
