   Betsy's Baby Services & Smallclothes team up to present Breastfeeding for Beginners, a one-night class for first-time moms. Learn breastfeeding basics, tips to make breastfeeding a success, and pitfalls to avoid. Nonjudgemental, funny, interactive & slightly goofy -- but extremely intense. I promise you'll learn a lot.

   March 25, 6:45-8 pm, at Smallclothes at 3215 California Avenue SW.

   Class is only $25 and includes handouts. Participants may bring a support person (partner, sister, mother in law) included in the fee, but it's not strictly necessary. Receive a $25 discount on my lactation consulting or postpartum doula services (certain restrictions may apply). Smallclothes is also pleased to offer a 10% discount on your first purchase.

   Come at 6:45 to browse; a staff person will be there to check you out at 8:00 if you find irresistable treasures to bring home with you!

   About me: I'm the mother of two breastfed children. I've been supporting families in Seattle since 2002, when I became a La Leche League Leader and natural childbirth teacher, and in 2009, became certified as an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant. I've taught breastfeeding classes at WIC, Bastyr University, Starbucks (of all places), and South Seattle Community College.    Personally, I would highly recommend this class to pregnant moms! In December I had my first baby and was very prepared for my labor, which went well, but the hard part came a couple days after birth when the baby was really hungry, but was hurting me too much for me to let her eat. This of course was a crisis for a new mom, so I looked up our local West Seattle La Leche League leader. I called Betsy, and she came out on the freezing cold afternoon to help me.
   Right away she diagnosed the problem, explained it really well, and helped me fix it. For our issue we had to see a doctor who specializes in breastfeeding, so Betsy made sure I had a game plan for the few days it would take to get in to see her. My midwife came by for a post-partum visit at the same time and was very impressed, and since has called me to get Betsy's name to give to other clients.
   I was totally unprepared for problems with breastfeeding and I wish that I had gone to a class like this!
   I credit Betsy for the fact that within a month of my baby's birth we were able to breastfeed without any problems.

   Wow, thanks for the vote of confidence. Meegan, I'm so grateful for your kind words. Ladies, I'm headed up to Smallclothes now to set up. I hear there's a big basketball game and if no one shows up tonight, we'll reschedule within the next two weeks.
