we were just out working in our yard near 48th Ave SW & Hanford. our neighbor came out to say that they spotted a BOBCAT this morning at 5:30 AM with something large and black in it's mouth. she could not tell what it was. bobcat headed up Hanford towards 49th and took off. we heard a ton of crows squawking at that same time. just an fyi for those with cats who live outdoors.

I'm sure that is worrying to people with pets but at the same time it's kind of neat.

I'd been meaning to check for links (lynx?) just to verify they really do exist around here. Seems they do.

And a googlesearch yields this tale from the history of Boren, the old junior high school that Sealth HS is leaving after spending two years temporarily housed there:
"In the winter of 1964 or 1965, the first principal, Robert Nelson, was refereeing a Boren Bobcats basketball game in the school gym. At half-time, someone rushed up to tell him there was a dead bobcat on his office floor. Nelson responded that he would have to handle it after the game was over. Returning to his office, he indeed found a dead bobcat in a cardboard box. The animal had been hit by a car and was brought in by someone who thought the school might want it.
After spending the weekend in the Home Economics freezer, the bobcat was stuffed and placed on display in a trophy case."

Yes indeed Tracy as I was a student, 7th grader,at Boren that year. The whole story is true! We were so excited to have that mascot. It was a big deal! I grew up on the greenbelt near the new Cooper school. Bobcats were spotted in that area.

I think this is exciting! I'd love to see a bobcat around here. Unfortunately, I'm guessing the next thread we'll see will be calling for the extermination of bobcats due to Fluffy's disappearance. Oy.

I would love to see one too. How beautiful they are. I know it is a sad part of nature that there is a food chain, and sometimes pets become a part of it. However, pets who spend time unsupervised and unleashed roaming are much more likely to fall ill, be hit by a car, of be attacked by or get into a fight with another domesticated animal.

Or abused by people...I saw a young boy pick up a cat by it's tail, swing it over his head several time and throw it in the blackberry bushes. When I confronted him he told me to "you know what". Makes me not want to be part of the human race.

Would love to have a talk with this youngster. Poor cat.

Well if he/she is out there doing what they do naturally like coyotes and raccoons, hopefully we humans wont' get so pissed and get rid of them too.
yep keep the cats in people. no one to blame but yourself if your cat goes missing.
FCAT
PS, if I should trap one, do not worry I will release it:)unharmed of course.

K- Curious to know why your neighbor thought it was a bobcat? I would be thrilled if it was one, but since there have not been other sightings, wonder if it was some other animal.

Would be interesting, though.

Here's a novel idea: this time, how about NOT feeding the damn thing so it's not afraid of humans? Can you please leave nature wild and ignore your selfish desire to take a peek at it by throwing roasted chickens onto your lawn? I can guarantee if you make it unafraid of people, and it attacks someone, it's getting shot. The coyotes wouldn't be such a problem if so many people hadn't wanted to look at them.
