LVBebeParticipantI know it’s a few weeks off but I love to plan; is there a good viewpoint to watch the Blue Angels?

miwsParticipantFor a few years back in the mid-late ’90’s, I went with friends to Ruby Chow Park in Georgetown, at the north end of Boeing Field. One of the two families I hung with, lived nearby, so we’d party and watch the hydros on Tee Vee, and when the Blues were about to perform, we’d hop in a couple cars and buzz on over.
The cool thing about that location, is that you can watch them take-off and land at BFI.
I don’t recall how much we used to actually be able to see of the east-west flyovers as they went back and forth over the Lake, or if any of the “stunts” were visible from there, or if any trees and such obscured upward viewing. Nor do I remember how crowded the Park was back then. Don’t think it was TOO bad, but after 15-ish years, it may have become more popular.
May not be best for trying to catch as much of the performance as possible, but you get to see them take-off and land! ;-)

clark5080ParticipantWe usually go to the parking lot near Boeing Tower. Also Thursday and Friday is free at Lake Washington and they will fly both of those days

trickycooljParticipantI’ve gone to the I-90 bridge! So awesome to do at least once. Parked near the big pedestrian tunnel and walked through to the park on the bridge side. If it’s sunny there is zero shade and one of my keen sandals left a print in the tar holding down a lane marker. Bring tons of ice water in a thermos or insulated bottle and an umbrella and copious amounts of sunscreen. It was absolutely worth getting up close. I think they also set up viewing towards the south side of BFI by the museum for takeoff/landing.

WSBKeymasterOn Friday, it’s free at Lake Washington since it’s technically a “practice” air show.
Then on Saturday and/or Sunday, go watch the walkdown, rev-up, takeoff, and return at Boeing Field/Museum of Flight – mostly via the fence on the south side of the MoF parking lot.
I am a total fangirl about all this so you can see what it’s like by reviewing some of the coverage (including the Boeing Field parking lots further north, but caution, there’s been some work and I don’t know if the configuration/access is the same any more) in our Blue Angels coverage category:

Bonus: The South Park Bridge is now open. Easier access to the west side of Boeing Field and MoF.

rwParticipantConsider this a second vote for watching from the I90 bridge via the pedestrian tunnel, which is closed to car traffic during the air show and a generous amount of time before and after the show.
I went to and from the air show via bicycle. It really isn’t that hard from West Seattle, although it required a bit of navigation through the International District. Traffic is fairly light on Sundays, so I would choose that day rather than Saturday if urban cycling seems intimidating.
