Birds hitting windows.

Yes, I know that most of you are going to freak over the fact that I have a non-political post, but this is legitimate.

I have several large glass windows in the rear of my house that have been hit by small birds (robins, sparrows, chickadees, etc) at least a half dozen times in the past year. Luckily, we haven\'t had a fatality yet but one of the little guys came close this past weekend (we had to do some nursing b/c he was stunned).

Has anyone else had this issue and do you have any solutions?

  2. i had this happen back when i lived in illinois. the only way it stopped was by us putting small pieces of colored glass on the windows. you can get decorative ones that suction cup to the glass. it just takes some color to break their vision. it worked!

  4. House...are there any berry bushes nearby, that the birds may be eating. When I was in my house, we had this happen periodically...even crows...they would eat the cherries in the front yard, the berries fermented in their tummy, instant drunk...whoa, into the window. Or...it could be that your windows are just too clean...lol..stop that :)

    interesting article, k...

House...good luck...I\'m sure the kids hate to see this happen, even more than you do...:(

    Yeah, I\'d say don\'t wash the windows...but I\'m a lazy, single guy.

Has anyone else had more than the usual number of birds hitting windows recently? We\'ve had several - and nothing is different this year with the house. On the lower level, they\'ve survived. One that hit the upper level died, probably from the two-story drop to driveway rather than the actual impact.

  7. It\'s not unusual and over the years we\'ve had birds of every size striking our picture windows. We haven\'t kept records, but many smaller birds from Starlings to Robins and larger birds occasionally too. It\'s not a frequent occurance, perhaps 3 or 4 a year. It never happens when the drapes are closed and they\'ve never broken a window. Many have not survived ether.

  8. The way I\'ve always seen it done was to put a black paper silhouette of a large bird (preferably a raptor) on the window. This will fool the birds into thinking it\'s the shadow of a larger bird coming their way, and they will avoid the window.
