Late last night there was a big beautiful white dog running around the Admiral Safeway parking lot and into the store. No collar and no owner to be found anywhere. He was very friendly but obviously stressed and just wanted to be inside, not out in the rain... There is a photo in the pets section. Maybe you know his family and can help him find his way home. The staff had to call the authorities or animal control, so I hope he was at least warm and safe for the night!

He was safely at Mud Bay (awesome!) this morning when I stopped in there. Very sweet, cute, huge dog, and looked young - but scared and nervous. Mud Bay fantastic people were taking good care of him until something could be decided.

I just ran across a lost dog posting on Craigslist that I'm certain is this puppy. Called the number posted and told him the dog is currently at Mud Bay. Here's hoping!

Checked it out and that's definitely him! Cheers to a happy reunion!

Yay! I'm so glad you posted the original info wundrgrrrl, especially the photo.

The dog was beaten by the owner outside of Circa after the owner picked him up from Mud Bay.

uprightjazz...how do you know this? If true...that's disgusting. No wonder the poor thing ran away :(
Posted 2 years ago # -
I was there for the handoff, and then back later to talk to the police, along with other witnesses. The owner threatened my friend's life when she tried to intervene and stop the beating. It is disgusting. And terribly sad.

That person does not deserve to be near any animal.

"That person does not deserve to be near any animal"
...except a burly cellmate.

Well, I've officially gone from elated to disgusted. In my mind, I pictured how happy and relieved the owner would be (like I would have been if it was me). My apologies to Sampson the puppy; perhaps you'd have been better remaining "lost". Sometimes people suck.

My fear would be this sweet dog getting another beating from this animal that owns him, or worse.

This makes me sick. Absolutely disgusted. That dog was so sweet and trusting. I hope his ownership situation can be resolved ASAP. If I was a witness to that I'd be following up with the police unrelentingly.

Just so you are not left wondering, I looked up some information on this over the weekend after receiving an inquiry from someone who wanted to remain anonymous.
Though I don't have the police report and therefore don't have the details of exactly what responding officers wrote up, there was a jail booking in that time frame, with the person released about six hours later, for investigation of 2nd-degree animal cruelty and menacing. I can't find my notes on the exact name that came up, and the jail system is difficult to search, so I'm having a little trouble looking into the system to see what happens next.
I also don't know (but am looking) what the rules are regarding animals being returned to someone accused of animal cruelty. Perhaps one of the many animal advocates who frequent the WSB Forums will know that offhand.

Here is what I found online on animal cruelty in Seattle and the responsibilities of the owner:

This is horrible. Hope there is a remedy to permanently remove this poor animal from its cruel owner and find it the loving home it deserves. Too bad there are no "scarlet letters" that animal abusers are required to wear.

Marianne:
I think this dog might need you and Hammerhead to intervene if we just knew where this dog lives.

I would be interested in finding out this scambags name so I could go to his address and make sure this dog is ok.

Depending on the animal cruelty charge and circumstances of the situation, often times the animal victim of abuse is safely kept at a shelter until a court date, verdict, etc. If the owner of this dog was the individual that was arrested over the weekend, the dog may very will be in Seattle Animal Shelter's care.
Just left a message with Seattle Animal Shelter to see if the dog is with them and if they are allowed/able to release any information publically.

FurryFaces- Thanks for the update, and please let us know if there's anything we can do (write letters, beat the sh!t out of the guy). I wish we could help this poor doggie, and if we can, I want to know how.

Most of the time when SAC gets involved in a cruelty investigation the person being charged will give up the animal in exchange for the charges not being filed. It doesn't help the next animal that person gets but it does help the one who is abused.
In this state, thanks to Susan Michaels and Pasados, animal cruelty is a felony and stays on your record so it makes people quicker to give up their animals in exchange for escaping a possible felony.
If this guy has already been charged it may be a different story. It is very helpful to have multiple witnesses, so if this is in animal controls hands and there are other witnesses out there it would be very helpful for them to come forward. It can be very hard to get an animal cruelty conviction from my experience.

This owner doesn't deserve to be one...
Most dogs are better people than people, especially this one.

I'm so sad that this has turned out the way it has. He was such a friendly pup and in no way deserved this. Mean people suck.

If anyone should ever see this dog running loose again CALL ME. I will take care of the situation. I am sure you know where to find my number.
Even with the law as Lenamegan mentioned it is very tough to prosecute.
Oh the police really can't do anything did any one make a report to SAS?

I'm curious ~ this is the 2nd time in a couple of weeks where I've come across a lost dog "after hours". Who are you supposed to call when Animal Control is closed?
Posted 2 years ago # -
Just read this online. Wonder if this is the person that was arrested over the weekend for animal cruelty--[not the white dog owner]---it's a terrible story.

I noticed his co-workers turned him in. Good for them. Hope he gets fired, too.
Posted 2 years ago # -
Oh No! I think I'm going to be sick.

From what I was told...Sampson was left with the owner's roommate by the police. To me, this would mean that after the owner posted bail, he could presumably return to his home and to the dog he had recently beaten. The person's first name is Bobby, I do not know the last.
Posted 2 years ago # -
If Seattle Animal Control is not involved in this one they should be. Does anyone know if they were called in? If they are not involved anyone who saw this can call a report in to them. They should be able to get the owner's info from the police.
SAC should be able to put this dog in a protective foster home until an investigation
Posted 2 years ago # -
No, the person I saw on the jail register was different - also 2nd-degree animal cruelty, not 1st degree as mentioned in the Times story.

People who do these horrible things to animals (let alone to children or other adults) have a special place in hell.

I ran into the officers that arrested the guy that picked up the dog from Mudbay. They said they didn't go there to arrest him just to find out what had happened. When they got there he was leaving and they detained him. He was questioned and he was arrested at that time for animal cruelty. I didn't find out if the dog was taken at that time but I would like to think that he was.

How did the dog end up at Mud Bay? he was running around Safeway at 11:30 at night... Mud Bay certainly wasn't open at that hour to take him in... Hmmm
Posted 2 years ago # -
I don't know how he ended up there but I did see one of the employees walking him on Saturday. What a beautiful dog.
Posted 2 years ago # -
The nice gentleman who works at Mud Bay was at Safeway and somehow asked about the dog. He was told the police were called about the dog (as a stray) and he decided to take it home, or to Mud Bay for the evening so it would have a safe place for the time being. The dog was at Mud Bay the next morning happily slurping water and greeting visitors.
