CinebelleParticipantJust after 6 p.m. on Tuesday, I was walking my leashed, super calm dog in the alley between 55th and 56th, just behind the apartment buildings along Alki. Two young women in their 20s each had an unleashed, and it turns out, super-aggressive dog, and both dogs charged out of the unlatched gate and attacked my dog. The Chihuahua was especially aggressive and bit out a chunk of my dog’s fur on her right rear leg. I tried to pull my dog out of the fight by her leash, but the little dogs were totally out of control. Finally one got the bigger dog–a white and fluffy one–and picked it up but the Chihuahua kept charging. I was really furious and told the women both off–for having unleashed dogs, and for having aggressive and attacking dogs, whereas I was in a public space with my dog on a leash, at the far side of the alley from them, who was truly minding her own business. The girls thought it was hysterical that I was so mad and began to make fun of me and then vaguely threaten me, taking steps toward me saying, “Shouldn’t you be moving along now?” I knew there was no time or probably point in calling the police, but I did want to warn other pedestrians and dog walkers to stay away from there, and honestly if anyone knows these young women, see if you can’t school them on proper dog ownership and responsibility. Oh and maybe even an “I’m so sorry” would work wonders.

mehud7ParticipantCall and report the incident to Seattle Animal Control. Their number is (206) 386-PETS.

EdSaneParticipantNext time kick the attacking dogs (if you are able to). You or your dog should not be subject to violence because of the negligence of others.

F16CrewChiefMemberBring a friend with a bigger dog next time. My rottweiler loves little aggressive dogs:-)
Seriously, call animal control. They will pay a visit to the people’s house.

CinebelleParticipantThanks, everyone. I will call Animal Control today, I appreciate the info… and Mr. Crew Chief, next time we go for a walk there, you and your Rottie are very welcome to join us :) Seriously, thank you everyone–I felt a little sheepish being “under attack” by such small dogs but they definitely were doing damage. I’ll let A.C. know about it and thanks so much for your feedback.–Anne

furryfacesParticipantIs your dog okay? Did it need to go to the Vet? Chihuahuas are one of the ‘top biting’ breeds and yep, can be very, very aggressive.
Ditto on reporting them to SAS. Seattle Animal Shelter will pay them a visit. If the dogs are not licensed, there will be a hefty fine…and if the dogs are not altered, the license will cost a lot more.
Now, for an [ewwwww!] way of breaking up a dog fight. If you can maneuver yourself behind the attacking dog, stick you finger in their butt. Yep, where the poo comes out. Most of the time it will startle the dog to the point that they stop fighting. When done….be sure to wash your hands. ;0)

queseraMemberI’m glad you called animal control. I believe I have seen that Chihuahua and the owner does indeed find it funny that her dog is aggressive. That poor thing got stuck with a pretty lousy owner and hopefully the dog doesn’t get itself very hurt one day, attacking something that chomps back.
