likaloveMemberToday roughly around 11am I was walking lincoln park where I decided to put my purse in my trunk, as a safety measure, prior to my walk, and as I was on my walk someone shattered my front window and stole me and my girlfriends purses out my trunk. We had a blue hobo and a black Marc Jacobs bags, most likely the person who broke into our car was watching us, I am deeply sad about the things that were taken from us and I also want other people to learn from our experience and be careful and aware of your surroundings. If you are ever going to lincoln park no matter what time of the day do not leave any valuables in your car, because my car was broken into with alot of people at the park during the daylight. If anyone finds our purses ditched anywhere, garbage’s, bushes, bathrooms, anywhere please let us know, you can email me at Malika.siddiq@gmail.com
Thank you for your time.

dobroParticipantSorry to hear you were victimized and hope you get your stuff back.
This is something I learned a long time ago. If you’re going to park your car somewhere and put valuables in your trunk DO NOT park and then put the stuff in the trunk. Stop somewhere away from your parking area and put the stuff in and then go park your car and don’t open your trunk. There are definitely people who hang around public parking areas looking for the opportunity to commit exactly the kind of crime that happened to you. It takes a little forethought to operate this way but if you have things you’d like to keep, it’s a method that works.

EdSaneParticipantEven though it’s ‘daylight’, you can break a car window with very little noise. No need to get into the specifics of how they do it. But, the idea that there is a loud breaking glass sound is only in the movies. Criminals use a different approach and even in a parking lot plenty of folks would be none the wiser. As dobro advised, hide valuables prior to reaching your destination.

sbreParticipantI’m sorry to hear this happened to you two, such a drag!
I know the horse it already out of the barn in your case, but with thoughts to helping others from the same fate, here’s a tactic I/we use if the same type of situation should arise:
Pull over a few blocks ahead of your destination and put your ‘things’ in the trunk, so upon your arrival all you need to do is get out, lock your car and walk away.
It’s not a guarantee that nothing will happen, however you won’t be showing those thieving A-holes that you have stashed your valuables in the trunk.
Hope this helps…

wsn00bParticipantAnd even if you keep stuff in the trunk before getting to the park, for high prowl areas, check if your car has “valet” features. That is, depending on your car’s model, you can disable the cabin’s trunk open lever and lock the fold down rear sets (if applicable). That way even if they break your glass they can’t get into the trunk easily.
