sbreParticipantI’m writing on behalf of Beta (11-12), a beautiful golden-eyed, medium-haired torti with miss-matching socks who lives in the Admiral district, but her humans’ new home is now in Kent and she’s unable to continue caring for Beta.
Beta moved into her humans life about a year-and-a-half ago after being fostered by a couple for almost two years, at the time she moved-in it was believed Beta was 10-11.
She is a healthy cat with regular vet visits and trips into her litter-box, she’s pretty much defect free, loves being brushed (but hates her belly being touched!) and her diet consists primarily of hard-food with a teaspoon+ of canned cat-food every morning.
She’s not the lovey-dovey type of cat who’ll take any and all the lovin someone has to give, although she does like spending time on a lap and getting petted and scratched behind the ears, as well as sleeping within paws-reach of her human for most the night.
She very much enjoys physical affection, to a point, then her tail will let you know when she’s had enough and prefers to just use you as a perch to survey her kingdom.
In all the time I’ve known her she’s never ‘missed’ her box, bit, scratched or clawed the carpets, and I’ve been an almost daily-visitor into their very clean, smoke-free home for longer than Beta’s been a part of it.
About 6 weeks ago the human had need to transition into an assisted-living facility and we have been caring for Beta since (twice a day, 3 blocks from home), and would continue doing so forever if necessary, however its very unfair to her (as she has SO MUCH to give) and the family is beginning to ready the house for sale.
There still is some time that she’s able to continue staying in her home, but eventually that will come to an end. Ideally we can find her a new for-ever home (or a foster one if necessary) and avoid putting this beautiful creature into a shelter.
Beta’s ideal new home would be one not inhabited by other pets (well dogs and cats any way) and with someone on the quieter side (she quickly runs and hides from most younger kids). She is quite comfortable being around a walker when used in a home and will even nap on its seat if left standing still for too long.
My wife & I would take her in a second but we share our home with two cockatiels who are never caged, and we have contacted family members, neighbors and the couple who fostered her without any success.
Thus I’m asking if you might know of a home where Beta would be a welcomed addition and companion.
Thank you in advance for any assistance you can give, and of course photos are available!!

4th of EightParticipantSince she is good with a senior person, you might contact Mt. St. Vincent (on 35th) who has cats that came with their owners and get to wander the halls and do their good work on the folks that reside there, or, as quite a few years back I adopted a senior cat to The Kenny Home (on Fauntleroy) as long as she was used to wheelchairs, louder TV’s, juice carts, etc. She was a doll! and they loved her for all the lap warming and purrs that she did for the residents there too. You know it’s all spiritual and the animals already ‘know’ their job to do! Contact the activity directors at each place or whomever would be in charge of ‘hiring’ her for ‘the job!’ =^..^=

JanSParticipant4th of Eight…a few years ago I spent a couple of months on the 5th floor recovering from open heart surgery and complications …at Mt. St. Vincent…We had 2 cats, both polydactyl…who hung out, came into rooms to visit…occasionally curling up on beds, etc…it was great having them around….made being there and recovering that much better :)

anonymeParticipantI so wish I could take her, but I have a mean and territorial Siamese I rescued from the street. He hates other cats. Surely one of our WS rescue folks can take her? It needs to be soon, before this becomes a crisis. I feel so badly for her.
