We stopped by Burien on Sunday hoping to score more tamales from the Latino Sunday market but no one was there. The tamales we were looking for cost $3/each but were huge and wonderfully spiced. We've tried the tamales at La Canasta and the White Center carneceria ($1 each!) but we like the flavors of the ones from the Burien market. Any ideas on sourcing awesome tamales?

dhg -- my husband brought home some of those tamales from the Burien Sunday market, too -- FANTASTIC!!! Not West Seattle but I have also gotten great tamales in a variety of flavors at the Mexican grocery next door to the original Starbucks at Pike Place Market.
I get my hair cut right by there and make my rounds, tamales and pico de gallo @ the Mexican grocery, the Piroshky bakery a couple doors down, Sur of course, Beecher's for the most amazing Mac 'n Cheese & flowers at the Market!! It's a good thing I only get my hair cut quarterly!

++++ for the Mexican grocery at Pike Place market.
Also, the ones at the Salvadorian bakery in White Center- YUM! we've brought some to potlucks before, and people request that we bring them again 'next time'

Chicken Mole @ Muy Macho are my favorite enchiladas.

I will second the ones from the Salvadorian Bakery. I think they are better than the Burien market and the Carniceria El Paisano in WC. They are smaller but very moist. If you go, be sure to get a slice of the tres leche cake to go. Don't fall for the other desserts, the cake is THE ONE.

What about the Salvadorian FLAN?!? I like to pretend it is health food. :}
They are the suppliers of the flan at Muy Macho, as a matter of fact.Posted 1 year ago # -
McPherson's fruit market on Columbia Way has a great stand in the parking lot with wonderful pork, chicken, cheese and jalapeno, and beef tamales. $1.25 each.

I will third the ones from the Salvadorian Bakery-super soft and SMOOTH not gritty.

I second Cafe Rozella's but am reluctant to admit that. Please don't eat them all.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I know about Salvadorean's tamales (and, by chance, was dining on their flan just this night). But I have not tried the Pike Place Market nor Rozellas nor McPhersons. I think I'll start with Rozellas...

A number of good suggestions above.
Next time you are in Union Gap, however, I would suggest Los Hernandez.
I have also heard rumors of a window in a house in Toppenish where you can get incredible tamales. I love that kind of stuff.Posted 1 year ago # -
Union Gap: 153 miles = Road trip!

My Dad lives in Bend, so I use that as an excuse for going through the YV. US-97 doesn't take much longer than I-5, and the food is better.

The tamales at Costco are actually quite good - located in the section where the fresh pasta is....they taste just like mom's!!

I stopped going to Costco over 10 years ago because I found my fellow shoppers to be so rude. I don't see the need to push someone out of the way to get to your grande Dijon mustard. But I arranged for a new card just a week ago and will be going soon. So thanks for the tip.
