   I am new to the neighborhood and looking for a local shop to change my oil. I would really prefer to not go to jiffy lube, grease monkey or some other big chain. I would appreciate any suggestions. oh, and a reasonable price would be nice too! thanks

   Alki Auto Repair is awesome! Great place to drop off the car and enjoy the beach or one of the restaurants on the water. They generally have coupons, too. http://www.tbopusa.com/coupon.php?couponid=935

   We use WS Autoworks. Just had both cars done. It costs more than the chains, but I trust them. They use an "EcoFriendly Oil." Says it's re-refined oil. They give a $10 mail in rebate with the oil change. So I paid $56 for my 96 Civic, but will get $10 back. You can get 6 redemptions per household til Dec 2012.
   Not sure how this compares to other places around town, but I know they're doing the job right. Plus they're super nice. Gave toys to my kids when we went to pick up the car. Don't get that at Jiffy Lube!

   Dere Auto on 35th & Barton is great. Reasonable prices and very honest (I know, hard to believe but it's true!)

   I guess it would depend on the make/model and year of your car. My BF drives a 97 Toyota Camry, and he uses Dere Auto on 35th and Barton. I have a '09 Subaru and I use Swedish Automotive on 35th and Kenyon, but before that I used to go to Courtesy Tire on Edmunds and California Ave. in the Junction, and I can attest to them being a real nice bunch of guys. Honest, and reasonable. But Dere and Swedish are also great IMO.

   Again, just depends on the kind of car you're driving and what you want in terms of other services down the road besides oil changes.

    Good Year on Fauntleroy has been so good to me! They also have coupons in the mail 19.95. They also have terrific mechanics!!!! Worked on my vibe, van and older mercedes (different vehicles over the years) they also have a drop off and pick up service is they need the car for a couple of hours or more. Can't say enough. JR has left :( but mechanics have remained. RAVE!!!!! You know exactly what your getting. They are so honest!!!! I've done my homework!

    Alki Auto Repair is not the very best in my opinion but I still go there. Like someone here said, nice place to drop off your car and enjoy the scenery. :)

    Barnecut's in Admiral Junction is our go-to shop for oil changes and most everything else on our cars. Have to support the small independent shops or we'll have nothing but "quick-e mart" stations and chain service operators. I doubt they are as inexpensive for oil changes as some of the discount coupon offers. But I have used Barnecut's for second opinions after other shops have suggested costly repairs and they almost always identify less expensive solutions. (Sorry, but repair estimates I have received at Alki almost always head in the opposite direction.)

    Also, with oil change specials be sure to see what grade of oil is being used. Perhaps that doesn't matter to you, but I prefer better grades of oil and the type of oil does matter when you compare one shop to another.
