It's finals week! I'm going to need a healthy supply of chocolate! My personal fave is the chocolate cake at Bakery Nouveau, but I want to change things up a bit too--so what's the best stuff to keep me going this week? (And no, I don't think "Crack" comes in chocolate...)

  2. Are you talking baked goods or chocolate-chocolate? Just discovered Divine Chocolate at PCC. German, Organic. yummy.

Good question Tracy--from a true chocolate soulmate I reckon. I usually prefer the baked goods, but a few squares of a nice deep, rich semi-sweet chocolate bar keeps the spirits up and the gears grinding too!

  4. I second the Divne Milk chocolate bars at P.C.C. Organic without the cardboard taste.

  5. a trip to trader joes will get you dark chocolate covered anything.. to nibble your way through the hours without realizing guilt... until the pkg is empty:(

    buy two.

  6. Well I'd suggest Chocmod French Truffles but I think those are seasonal. The latest interesting chocolate I found at Trader Joe's was dark chocolate covered edamame. Antioxidants and protein!
Very easy to eat! Too easy...
Thriftway also has a good selection of 'boutique' and organic chocolates (like Theo) on their checkout aisles.

  7. MargL..

the edamame chocolates were too easy to rationalize.. good thing i didn't buy two:)

My new favorite is Theo's 71% (I think) chocolate bar with cherries and almonds. My old favorite is chocolate-dipped ganache-filled figs, individually wrapped for your protection. Let me know if you need delivery of either.

    The dark chocolate dipped orange
    OR
    the salted caramels @ BN.

    OMG - LOVE those things.

I've had the Theo's too. Fabu, as well.

  10. Irukandji where do you find the figs on the west side? I grab them at Fran's when at U Village, and they really are heavenly.

Definitely Theo's. Also at TJ's is a new item next to the checkout stands. They're dark chocolate covered nut squares (almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc) and they're wonderful!

The figs are called 'Rabitos' and I special order them. You can go to http://www.zingermans.com, or check them out then look for someone with a lower price and more reasonable shipping cost. Do I feel a figs and wine night coming on post exams VBD?

Irukandji: How about Ginger Ale and Chocolate? (actually, that sounds kinda gross--I'll work on another wine alternative.) I have to run some errands soon and will stop by PCC to stock up on some chocolate goodness, but will keep you generous people with your delivery offers on speed-dial for later this week!!

PCC also carries Green & Black's organic chocolate. Yum. Various flavors, or just plain chocolate bars.

Damn you Irukandji, I was so good yesterday in not not placing a Zingerman's order, even after the 10% coupon arrived - now I think I have no choice but to place it.

Kimberly: show your restraint by ordering the 9- rather than the 16-pack ; )

  21. Yay Zingerman's! I make a pilgrimage whenever I visit my sister in Ann Arbor. :)

Just back from PCC with a vegan brownie (don't let the name fool you, these do not taste remotely virtuous) and a bar of Green & Black's milk chocolate and caramel. The G&B I must admit is a bit disappointing--tastes more fruity than chocolatey/caramelly. Have gone to the Zingerman's site. Oh my. How does one get a 10% off coupon? Do you have to place an order first?

  23. A couple of weeks ago Bartells was selling Theo chocolate bars of different types for $2.69/bar. I think these are the smaller variety (compared to the mondo Blanxart bar.) Think global, but eat local chocolate...Don't know if the deal is still on. Now we need a bacon post...

  24. chocolate covered bacon w/ almonds :D

  25. http://www.kingarthurflour.com/recipes/chocolate-stout-cake-recipe This is pretty good. The first time I did it I used the cake tins suggested and the cake overflowed. The second time I cut the recipe in half and used a 9x13 tin and just put the frosting on top.

Yesterday: class and studying from noon to 9pm. Today, (so far) studying for final and doing research for paper--all day! I think it's time to bring on some serious chocolate. May have to take a break to get some.

Well I got radical: I baked. Triple-Chocolate Brownies from the "Chocolate on the Brain" cookbook. A must-have book for chocolate-dessert lovers. It's easy AND funny! I used lots of odds and ends of semi-sweet and dark chocolate bars for the recipe, so we'll see what kind of Death By Chocolate monster I've created.
