Avalon 50% off on dealpop

  1. No thanks. I'd rather pay menu prices so the owners, cooks, waitstaff, bartenders and dishwashers, who are working so hard, can earn a living wage.

first.. it's half off $30 worth of food...

my experience with this type of coupon is that once in the door that "free" $15 encourages you to spend far more than you would have without it.

    second...

that free $15 of food gets people through the door.
if they like it they are likely to go back.. coupon or no coupon.

And that helps pay the salaries of owners, cooks, waitstaff, bartenders and dishwashers.

    Last ...

the owners of Avalon are the ones who decided a $15 discount off of $30 was a good deal for them.

I am guessing they knew what they were doing.

  3. I love Avalon, but at this point in my life, I simply can't afford to eat there often. Half off helps those of us who don't always have the means to pay menu prices all the time. And encourages us to spread the word about how good it is, too.

You know these businesses release these "deals" themselves right?

When many cannot afford to eat out, they have to stay afloat somehow - they cannot survive off of Chris and Bebe alone, that is unless they eat there 50 times a day, with a party of six. So your comments are a moot point.

Most of us would want to do the same as you both so don't belittle someone who heard of a good deal and passed it on TO SUPPORT A WEST SEATTLE BUSINESS. Chriminy people, why so frickin snarky?

  6. Actually "Fae" has never posted about anything but DealPop, which leads me to believe it's an employee, undisclosed so far as I know, which makes it a rulebreaker that I need to deal with. (Fourteen posts in seven months isn't exactly overkill, though.)

The rules for these will change with the closer-than-ever launch of classifieds. But in the meantime, I would rather see local businesses post about their own deals here, which is why we set up the category (and for actual Forum members/participants to say hey, I saw a good deal).

P.S. Worth noting that at least DealPop is based in Seattle, unlike some of the other deal companies, including the most famous of them all.

gee, I have *no* idea to which famous deal company TR is referring, but here's a link to an article about several lawsuits in the works about some of the limitations on these deals:

as always, the range of reader comments is fascinating.
