I am student of ASL and recently moved to West Seattle and I would like to meet some Deaf people and practice signing.

I don't know about West Seattle, but I went to school at Seattle Central and there is a Starbucks up there that has a "Deaf Night" every week. I think it's on Wednesdays or Thursdays (it's been about 6 years since I went). You could check with the school and see if they have any events also. I know if you go to Abbondanza's in the Morgan Junction, most of the employees use sign language as I believe the owners are deaf. It's always fun to go there and try to use ASL. :-) Good luck!

I was also going to mention Abbondanza's; when they opened, a newspaper article mentioned the signing waiters. A few years ago I went by there at night and recognized several interpreters from my Metro days. It seemed like an informal get-together; not sure if it was a regular thing or if it still happens.

  4. tj4, give me a contact that I can pass on to one of my deaf friends who thrives on teaching and is a wonderful person too!

She often meets people/students at various establishments in the Admiral area.
