   I have a large but troublesome kitchen space that I am about to remodel. The same awkward trouble spots keep popping up with every stab I take at it. I\'ve had input from Home Depot guys, cabinet builders and one interior designer, but I still don\'t have confidence in the current best plan.
   The one thing I haven\'t done is actually lay out cash for someone whose core skill is designing kitchens. If it gives me a plan I have confidence in, it\'s worth it. So, can anyone recommend an architect/kitchen designer?

   Not completely off-topic, but if you\'re concerned about green design and building, check this link to Seattle resources from the Environmental Home Center. We used EHC for some things and were surprised at the little things that can make a big environmental difference. When you\'re starting a new project, it\'s even easier to make it green from the beginning:

   Most designers, architects and builders can help you with everything from environmentally-friendly materials to built-ins that help you recycle, if you ask them. (Green is a selling point and a reselling point in the Seattle area and, in today\'s housing market, that matters.)

   My only \"free advice\" is know what you want and stick to it. We figured out that the first architect for our upstairs \"living space\" (master suite) was designing what he wanted -- not what we wanted. Since we only needed plans for building permits we smiled, nodded, got his signature, and did what we wanted ... until we ran out of money -- but we\'ll be back :-)

   Context Custom Builders in Madison Park, a good reliable company without the Madison Park prices.

   Stop talking to home depot type companies, these are amateur at best and people always seem to go their first but hate the results.

   This coming from a CKD(certified kitchen designer) who worked with Signature Cabinets, Petes Cabinets and as a Rep for Crystal Cabinets though International Kitchens in Belltown for over 10 years.

   Also, all architects seem to think they do a kitchen best. They do a whole house well but I can give you clear examples of what they lack and cannot explain, or warn you about in terms of flow, current products etc. They just cant be an expert at everything.
   Get a real kitchen designer.
   The NKBA has a list of ckd's in your areas and will also list where they work. You will see a clear difference in what you get, and the level of communication throughout.

   Call Chuck Gordon. He is an amazing architect, self employed, a good listener and....by hiring him, you support dog rescue. He has property in Ollala which is the home for BlueDogCreek Rescue.
