Anyone use Ooma?

  1. Thinking about getting this as with all the taxes and centurylink's bare bones phone line, we pay $23 a month. I know with Ooma you pay only about $5 a month in phone taxes but wondering how people like it, use it, costs, etc.

    Thanks!

We've been using ooma for several years now. We got in even before they started charging taxes, so we've paid nothing for our home line all these years. Comcrap was charging $50/month!

We've recommended ooma to many of our friends and they all love it. Same quality, but MUCH cheaper.
Don't even hesitate. Buy it now!

  4. We have also been using Ooma for several years and can't recommend it enough..
the one caveat is that it is computer based so if the electricty or internet is down, your phone line is down...
not a problem for us.. but worth asking whether it is for you.

we bought the upgraded service and get an email when there is a phone message.. with an attachment to listen to it. That sure beats dialing in to the home phone answering machine when you travel.

  5. can you plug it in and have all your home phones in the house work or do they all have to be directly plugged into the device? Who bills you for the line taxes? So many question but centurylink is a rip for this!

  6. homer.. the set up we got had a second phone line that could be separate from the main line..
i got around the need for many different phones in the house by plugging one of those phones with stand alone extensions into the ooma and placing the extensions around the house...

the latest flyer from Costco has the Ooma device i have for $149 after $20 off at Costco.com.

  7. Thanks JoB. Saw Amazon has it standard for that price too but not as easy to return if I needed to.

What amount of taxes do you pay per month with ooma?

    How is the voice clarity?

Do you use cable internet or DSL through centurylink?

    Thanks for the help!

I'm so grateful for this post - I didn't know such a thing as Ooma existed. Anything to get out of the clutches of CenturyLink would be SO welcome. Just tried figuring out how much stand alone CL internet service would cost, but the website will not allow it. It will only let me upgrade service, not downgrade. I really, really hate those scumbags...

The only drawback is more boxes and wires everywhere. I'm thinking of getting Roku as well, so this is getting out of control!

  9. agreed...I was quoted $22.50 for 7mb century link dsl ONLY. Only thing is I'm not sure if this was a promotional price that would get jacked up after a year or it was the regular price....yeah, $23.50 for a basic phone line after taxes is crazy.

I don't get why Ooma charges some of these taxes though as it is all over the internet so no real phone line......

  10. Homer.. i don't know about the taxes since we chose ooma before that was an issue.. though i am guessing we pay taxes on the extended service. since we only see that bill once a year and it is around a hundred i don't pay that much attention.

the voice quality is great. i have trouble hearing and i can easily sit on the phone for an hour or so when trouble calls and hear every word.

We have whatever high speed comcast is.. but hubby tells me that if your speed is fast enough to allow you to enjoy the forum you would be ok with Ooma.
