Anyone need snow help?

  1. We are such an incredible community here - let's help our neighbors.
    .
Is anyone snowed in and needing help? There are probably many of us that are home and can walk to get basic necessities - can we help our neighbors? I will be walking this afternoon from near the nursery to the Junction and back, and could pick up simple items if someone was on my way...
    .
I'm sure that between us we can take care of one another. Can others here offer help, or ask for it?

I'm at 49th and Dawson and will venture out in a while up to the Junction. Anybody between here and there who needs something from Safeway or Rite Aid or a similar place? (I'm walking, so cannot do big deliveries).

Krisitina question--C&P Coffee is open? I'm thinking of venturing out for coffee and I don't think the minimart is going to be open.

Ohhh, I'm so jealous. I want a C&P Americano sooooo bad. Ladro is open, as is West Seattle Thriftway. I plan to venture down the hill later for eggs and espresso. Ya, eggs. That should be pretty funny. I might as well just get 6 dozen assuming the multiple butt slides will crush most of them on the way back...

But if anyone needs anything...I'd be happy to pick it up.

And if someone reads this who is nearby and has 4 eggs I can borrow, I'd be eternally grateful. I need to bake! What if the power goes out?! I MUST bake.

I made it to work alright but am contemplating the drive home later. Is it possible that someone could give me an update on the status of Fauntleroy, California, SW Morgan and 35th while you are out and about?

JoB, does the offer stand? The little guy just got a sledding invite and that takes precedence to baking. If you get a wild hair and use all your eggs, don't fret! There is so much snow now I think I can make it down the hill!

    star,

I just drove california from morgan to admiral (4x4). No problems, there is compacted snow so if may get slippy later. Morgan is a mess..bus hit pole I believe..good luck.

    Cruiser,

I think that I am going to be getting off the bridge and heading straight onto Fauntleroy to Morgan and then up the hill to 34th. My partner said that Morgan was doable by most vehicles that she saw (I drive a 4 cyclinder Hyundai) so I am thinking that is my likeliest option. Unless of course someone else has a better idea?

    Posted 3 years ago #
  20. ellenator.. yes, the offer stands.. if you don't take the sensible option and walk the nearly flat to franci's instead:)

i will pm you my phone number

  22. We've got 4X4 over here and were just able to make every non-closed hill in West Seattle with no problem! If anyone needs anything, we can get to ya.

I just got back from walking to Safeway in Jefferson Square so I am good for a couple of days. And yesterday I managed to meet the crab pusher and nab a couple of legs for Mom. So we are set but thank you all for looking out for everyone.

I'm Jones-ing for some rum for hot buttered rums this evening. I may go knocking on neighbors' doors this afternoon. Maybe a sign on the little dog: "Got Rum?"

flowerpetal I was thinking the same thing earlier. My mom makes the best hot buttered rum...called her for the recipe and then it dawned on me i dont have rum. :(

  37. I've got Vodka but no ice cream. However, I'm up the hill from Westwood, on 18th.

On baking, when I heard we might get snow I went to Costco and got the Costco size flour, sugar, eggs and butter. I'm glad I'm not the only one that has to bake when the weather turns bad!!

JoB, In my opinion, if you stuck it in the oven, you baked it! ;) Thank you to all you terrific neighbors of West Seattle that prove what an amazing community we are! Just reading this tread has touched my heart!

MrJT you're killing me! I'm a teacher with no school tomorrow and really love baking. Well, I love eating baked goods. I think I will try to walk to QFC tomorrow for flour. I think I have everything else. Thus begins my winter break - with baking mmmmmmmmmmmmm.

JoB, I agree with Garden_nymph. Oven = baking.

  41. Recipe for hot buttered rum mix:

1/2 gallon of melted vanilla bean ice cream
    pound of soft butter
    pound of powdered sugar
    pound of brown sugar

mix the dry sugars in a mixing bowl
mix the soft butter until creamy in separate bowl
add melted ice cream to butter
mix the sugars with the ice cream & butter

keep refridgerated until used up (doesn't last long)

To make the drink, boil water, then in a cup put as much mix in as you like, add the hot water, ten put one shot of rum into it if you like. Enjoy!

My daughter likes it without the rum, we call it a "Christmas Nudge" when it's alcohol free.

  44. WSMom - I made this mixture a few years ago and it is SO good. Did you notice that it contains no calories and no fat? :)

    Posted 3 years ago #
  45. I don't even want to think about what this HBR mix is doing to my arteries!! Moderation is key. It's very rich, so I just ask for a half cup :)

    Posted 3 years ago #
  46. We are going to open today.
