Sitting down and drinking a beer or throwing back a whiskey?

This meeting would be for anyone that enjoys West Seattle, doesn't have self pity, actually loves themselves, thinks that Capitalism isn't such a bad idea, isn't a victim, could care less about publicizing the good deeds they do, doesn't want to throw a charity event for every damn person that whines loud enough for them to hear, doesn't consider dogs/cats are equals with children, isn't going to complain about their life situation, don't take themselves too seriously and most importantly ENJOYS TALKING ABOUT SPORTS.

I don't care what sex, race, age, religion or how many legs you have. You are welcome.

I'm afraid that these type of people are in hiding in West Seattle and I want to know that you have a voice. It's not acceptable that the forces that be keep you down.

My suggestion is Beveridge Place Pub or any number of places along Alki. Let me know when and where you want to meet up and I'll be there with my Jack Daniels.

  2. You had me until you got into sports. Unless you're a Red Sox fan!

I was going to say that. You had me until sports. But, I can still drink whiskey. Meet up at that Irish place on Alki some evening?

How about those Spurs and that Sounder's coach?

    Do I qualify?

    Posted 3 years ago #
  5. Yeah, I am not a sports guy house, but we have sparred enough on this blog that we should meet at some point. I vote anywhere that is not ALKI. I hate parking at alki.

I had lunch next to Steve Sarkisian last week. Does that count as sports talk? I also pretend to listen to every word my son says about fantasy football.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  7. yeah, see I had to google Steve Sarkisian. Not a sports guy. I do love booze though.

If everyone here is so ridiculous to you, House, why do you come here? Do you not have anything better to do than insult people and stir things up? Do you feel better now?

    Posted 3 years ago #
  9. Thanks for the warning. Post the date and time so I can be sure not to show up.

    does everything

"anyone that enjoys West Seattle, doesn't have self pity, actually loves themselves, thinks that Capitalism isn't such a bad idea, isn't a victim, could care less about publicizing the good deeds they do, doesn't want to throw a charity event for every damn person that whines loud enough for them to hear, doesn't consider dogs/cats are equals with children, isn't going to complain about their life situation, don't take themselves too seriously and most importantly ENJOYS TALKING ABOUT SPORTS."

need to be lubricated by alcohol to make it palatable?

All those things you stuck together describe me... of course, you would have to actually know me to know that....

I even love sports... i am rabid about rugby and gymnastics and figure and ice skating and soccer.. i skated and played rugby.... :))) the rugby qualifies for sport creds for sure:)

and while i did, i suspect i consumed more than my lifetime allotment of alcohol:)

which taught me that some discussion is better fueled by non-alcoholic beverages... assuming that you want to actually exchange opinions...

but i am all for the manly men and manly women getting together to soak those brain cells in alcohol...

the sooner you get the excess of your youth out of your system... the better ;~>

Hey House - pardon me for being thick but could I ask a small favor?

Could you please clarify as to whether this is a gathering of the like minded which BTW might touch on sports or is it a sports discussion period.

...People coming in here stirring things up in a reasonable thread complaining about House stirring things up...

That isn't proving his point at all.

    JoB- Hooray for gymnastics!

Hiya House. Ditto on the "you had me until 'sports'". Sports is the kiss 'o death in my conversational repertoire, unless sarcasm about football counts, but I suspect it would not be appreciated. I do like a drink though.

  14. This looks like it is not going to happen. I was really looking forward to guys telling stories about how they got their elk this year.

I'm soooo down! Can we discuss why Seattle can't seem to get their act together and get an NHL team? This is winter, parking on Alki is not a pain at all, but I've never been to Beverage Place so that would be cool to check it out. They serve whiskey right?

    Posted 3 years ago #
  16. nope. Beveridge is a beer bar.

If you get something together post it here. My faince and I would probably go. But how about Prost? They do serve more than beer...

We actually met some really awesome couples last time we were there. And by awesome I mean non-victim, fun, out going individuals whom didnt wine, talk about charity, politics, or their dogs/children all day/night.

let me know if you think of a time that works.

I'm a far cry from a "manly" woman, but this get-together sounds great! When and where is it gonna be?

I'm really good at pretending that I know about/care about sports! :)

Another gift that keeps on giving :)

  21. Aw Full tilt...

i can exchange elk stories with you when i come in for ice cream:)

I bagged mine before i was 12.. of course it was someone else's tag...

it was a rite of passage in my family... my first and my last... but not a minor trophy:) I suspect it still hangs in the family cabin since the new owners were into authentic restoration:)

but i still think you guys (and like minded gals) really ought to get together to scratch freely and trade tales of excess:)

Who knows.. you might find a closet dead head in the crowd ;~>

Hmmm. Perhaps a little bit of clarification is in order here.

I'm not a "sport watcher". I'm a now-and-again doer of multiple activities. Jock? No. Calorie burning fun-seeker? Yes.

I know about the Spurs only because they were on the TV in the restaurant I had dinner at last night. Somebody had to tell me which team was which between the Lakers and the Spurs, OK? Am I making myself clear enough here?

And, though I do play soccer now and again, I only mentioned the Sounders because they are running an ad around the news hour lately.

Ok. Now that I've straightened that out ;), I would like to cast my vote for Prost, but I think I would make an effort to attend elsewhere too. I'm not an over imbiber or frequent drinker beyond a glass of wine, but I DO like a nice drink. Jack Daniels is WAY nice, especially at Prost. A good German beer to follow would be nice as well.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  23. westseattledood...

i too enjoy a nice drink... mine wouldn't be alcoholic.. but i would enjoy it anyway...

and i hope you didn't think i implied that jocks are stupid... that would be stupid.. since i was once as close to being a sports freak as they come.. just not the traditional sports...

    TheHouse...

you can relax and plan an enjoyable get together with like minded people without worry that i would show up..

i am sure that would be my loss.. but i don't have energy for that kind of thing these days...

add in a fundrasier that will benefit the community.. and you have my full attention.

  24. I'm in hopefully. It depends on work and child care. My work delves into local sports. (Don't ask for tickets, I have no pull). I own a share of the Green Bay Packers. (I like the Seahawks but the fans get a little riled up if not one of them. Loyal and Loud.) I like whiskey (although I like domestic and Canadien over Irish Whisky or Scotch).

I like Capitalism very much. I like liberals. They taste delicious. My first name is really Hannibal. LOL. I also am an avid follower of "The Great One". Makes the drive home from Bellevue much more entertaining.

Let me know what day, place, and time. As it was said above, No Whiskey at Beveridge.

Gotta Go. Our Commander in Chief is giving his farewell speech.

    Cheers.

This Sunday there are 2 playoff games. Although I'm not a big football fan it seems appropriate. I prefer Canadian Whiskey. Prost, Admiral Pub, Corner Pocket, Bamboo?

  26. House. I'm not sure if this is for real, but if it is... count me in! I must admit to HATING whiskey, but everything else is fair game. I like this post, I like this forum, I like all of you.

It's these different personalities that makes it so fun. House, give me the when and where. Other WSForumers, I want to meet you all.

  27. traci...

i can't talk for other WSB forum members.. but i plan on being at skylark for a while around noon on inauguration day and at Full Tilt ice cream inauguration night for their inauguration party...

if these guys don't get their act together.. come celebrate with us...

i have to warn you though.. the we i will be hanging out with are those do gooder old and not so old curmudgeons... ex hippies or not... past political organizers or not... dead heads or not... free thinking or not... who think it's a good thing Obama is being inaugurated and would like to see this celebration usher in real change.. one defused racial incident at a time:)

doesn't want to throw a charity event for every damn person that whines loud enough for them to hear, WELL, NOT *EVERY* PERSON

I'm down with Prost. I've driven by it a dozen times and want to check it out. Does anyone have contact info of the owner so that I can call him or e-mail him? I've heard it gets packed quickly, so maybe they can hold us a spot.

I vote for next Friday or Saturday night.

And JoB/Kayleigh/catlbob/rykrite....thanks for your input. It's a shame you're going have to battle it out for kissing rights. I only have two cheeks.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  30. actually, House, you have 4, but we ain't kissin' those either ;-)

    Posted 3 years ago #
  31. Well, House, you still owe me a beer or two and a discussion. If you are prepared to discuss cycling or rugby, I am in.

And heck, dude, this makes you sound you're feeling a bit victimized. I hope it's the ever-present wit of House instead.

"I'm afraid that these type of people are in hiding in West Seattle and I want to know that you have a voice. It's not acceptable that the forces that be keep you down."

do you need to be rude, crude and socially unmentionable to make your point?

House, thanks for your post--it sounds to me like you're proposing a positive gathering. I'm pretty lightweight about the sports though I could definitely get behind the NHL question! BTW, reading this thread has been highly entertaining--it reminds me a little of the McDonald's cappuccino commercials from last year. This politics/personality mix is part of what makes West Seattle so much fun ;-)

I just got confirmation from Chris at Prost that he's expecting us. He stated that Saturdays are very busy, but they should be able to make room for us.

Plans are to meet at Prost @ 7pm next Saturday night (Jan. 25th) and hang out most of the evening. The more the merrier!

I'll re-post Friday or Saturday AM as a reminder!
