  5. Nick: What is an "A-frame" on your planet. Request for ambiguous geometric shapes, while entertaining, are unlikely to get you the help you apparently need.

    Define A-frame and someone might have one.
    Pick from the list:
    * A roof on a home
    * A frame camping tent
    * Folding ladder
    * Double wishbone suspension (cars)
    * Some suspension bridges
    * A-frame for hang gliders, trikes, and ultralights
    * at the stern of ships for fishing or research
    * The main building of Florida's Disney's Contemporary Resort, in which the Walt Disney World monorail has a station
    * Some Wienerschnitzel and Whataburger restaurants use the A-frame
    * The London Eye is supported by only one A-frame on one side.

    A saw horse is an a-frame structure as well. I have several of those you can borrow.

    ken, it would probably be difficult to borrow most of the things on your list, except for a step ladder, which i have never heard referred to as an a-frame. if it's a tent frame, the OP stated one specific date, so my assumption would be that he would probably not need a tent, unless he's maybe doing something nefarious in camp long and wants to remain unseen. also, an unpaired saw horse has limited use, and the OP specifically requested an a-frame.

    i was thinking practically, but practically not thinking.

    I need an A-frame too. Please deliver it to my house on that street in West Seattle. You know, the street with the tree? Leave it in the driveway next to that sweet car that should be sitting there. . . . . And I want a good A-frame, not a scratched up one. By noon or forget it!

  11. when I saw A-frame, I thought it meant they needed a sawhorse. I didn't realize there were so many other options!
    (the 2 saw-horses we have are home made, out of scrap wood pieces, so not really transport-able....:)

  12. Perhaps it is an A-board(a freestanding sign)?

  13. "And I want a good A-frame, not a scratched up one."

    Make it a noice one. And not too expensive!

  16. Is it a colloquialism? I know I was baffled when I moved here to find that locals all seemed to call plastic sheeting "visqueen". Is an engine hoist called an A-frame?

    wish Nick Star would enlighten us...

    I'm a Seattle native - though I guess a young one, at about 27 - and I've never heard "A-frame" used as a term for any specific item. Have heard of an A-frame house/building, definitely, but nothing just called "an A-frame."
    Also, I've never heard of "Visqueen" referring to anything other than the band; a quick Google search tells me it's what I would simply call "plastic sheeting." :-)

    And the winner is....homedk!!!!

    That's right, I was being cryptic on purpose to see which of you could figure it out!!

    (Sorry for the confusion and will be more specific/get my wording correct for future posts)

    PS - no longer in need of one, decided to go with a B-Frame instead
