anyone have a chainsaw and a little free time?

  1. The good news... a load of donated wood was delivered to Nickelsville this morning...

the bad news.. much of it was longer than 18" and needs to be cut down to burnable lengths before it can moved into the camp.

We only have one volunteer with a chainsaw who we can ask to come down to Nickelsville to cut the donated wood into lengths that can be used.. and he isn't always available.

if there is anyone out there with a chainsaw who can donate some time and labor, we would really appreciate the help.

Hi - I have a chainsaw but unfortunately not the time right now. I can loan the chainsaw to someone if they have the time. I'm working every day until probably the 26th but after that I'll also have the time and can chop myself.

  4. EmmyJane..

i suspect you will get a message from the munchkins..
they spent a long afternoon cutting down chunks of wood into usable pieces today
but there was still plenty left when i dropped by about 6 PM.

The wonderful people at Burien Bark and Gravel brought by a waist high wood cradle that makes it much easier to cut the wood down to length.

One more time..... the snow thing got things all weirded out. I have an electric chain saw... for N'ville. One spare chain purchased. The chain needs tightening... no big deal. One bolt thing. It is about 3 1/2 hp. Methinks it should be restricted to "qualified" users.. that is those that will use the chain oil, put the blade cover on when used, and keep in out of the weather. If it gets "dropped off" I predict a short service life. Come and get it...

Kootchman: I know we missed connections last time on your saw with all the phone tag. Next time we're down at camp we'll talk to the woodmaster we've been dealing with and ask him if he thinks it's feasible for use in the camp. Their "carbon footprint" only allows for limited use of the generator so it's their call. We'll find out and get back to you.
We've gotten around the emissions exclusion the residents are subjected to by bringing our gas saw to the parking lot to do the deed. I don't use it much anywhere else so I figure I'm just using my carbon credits in the park and ride.
Our thought is to "gift" the saw to the woodmaster which would allow for him to keep possession of it and ensure its care unless there's a rule we're unaware of.
We'll see what falls out of all of this.
Thanks for continuing to think of their comfort.

Makes ya wonder don't it? Like it's more "green" to cut it somewhere else? Sorta like the tax code.. the more ya have the more mental energy wasted on how to get around em. Methinks an electric saw running off a generator is better than a 2 stroke for emissions. N'ville.....a lot of energy being exerted to keep adults in a world of child like dependency.

  16. kootch..

sometimes Nickelsville's policies seem pretty counterproductive to me too..

but isn't that the way of the world
it's always a lot easier to complain about the rules than to craft them..

    especially in a participatory democracy
