    ever seen the road to wellville with anthony hopkins, john cusack, dana carvey, lara flynn boyle, and many others? evidently that movie was pretty factual, and that kellogg guy was quite the nut. he believed enemas - and cereal - were the cure to everything, and that was 100 years after the - uhh - wrong way to smoke pictured above.

    thanks for the colloquialism lesson, too, DP. that will come in handy at the water cooler. :)

    though you can still find the kooks who think the road to your cure is a diet or supplement or device that you won't try because you don't want to get well:(

    There actually is a bit a fact behind the device. There is a known connection between nicotine and colon disease. Many people believe that smoking actually helps suppress the symptoms of colon diseases such as ulcerative colitis.

    I had ulcerative colitis for almost thirty years and smoked for a good portion of that time. After a minor heart attack in later life, I quit smoking and shorty after, the ulcerative colitis flared up out of control.

    So those folks back in the 1700s may have been on to something, whether they knew it or not.
