Any recs for a kid dentist that does good with sensitive kids?

  1. My son has some sensory issues and has a really hard time with the dentist. We have gone to a really great dentist that was willing to use meds but now our insurance will not cover it. Does anyone have a rec for a West Seattle Pediatric dentist that is gentle and understanding?
    Thanks.

Dr. Raleigh just north of the junction. He's right across from Hotwire. He has always been great with people who have anxiety about going to the dentist. I've been going to him since I got teeth! :-) He's really nice and he and his assistants really care about their patients.

  3. Dr. Tweedy is on 42nd by the QFC. She is great with kids and is a pediatric dentist. The support staff is very patient and the kids love them.

I second that on Dr. Tweedy. Unfortunately our daughter has had some pretty serious dental issues in her life. She's 13 now and fortunately her adult teeth have fared much better than her baby teeth. We've been with Dr. Tweedy's office for the whole ride so far and we love them. Every member of the staff is outstanding and wonderful with children. Even after all of her dental ordeals our daughter is more comfortable going to the dentist than going to the doctor for a shot. You should give them a visit and see if they might give you a tour or speak with you. It's an absolutely amazing practice....

Most people I know who have kids go to Dr. Tweedy and love her. We see Dr. Raleigh and love them!

Dr. Tweedy and Dr. Lee are extremely caring and gentle with my doctor/dentist phobic three year old. He has bad front teeth due to gravity issues as a small toddler. They are very patient with him and he manages to smile after a visit, which is amazing considering how afraid of medical procedures he is.

Another vote for Dr. Tweedy, she is very patient and gentle. And her staff are wonderful! Our daughter has been a patient of Dr. Tweendy's for the last 7 years. I would like to hear more about Dr. Lee as our insurance is changing and we might be moving to his office.

I believe Dr. Lee is actually a dentist in Dr. Tweedy's office. If it's the Dr. I'm thinking of we have had procedures done by her as well and I would also give a strong cheer for her as well....

In case those don't work out and you need another option: Dr. Heidi Hackett in the Keystone area near Greenlake. My son has sensory issues as well, and she is absolutely amazing. He had a filling done with no problems at all. I love her so much, I am willing to leave my treasured West Seattle for her. Her office is mellow, she is the only dentist, she does her own cleaning, and her office person and assistant are also amazing! Can't recommend them enough!!

Dr. Tweedy is seriously booked (about 4-5 months out, I think).

  12. My family all see Dr Byron Nakagawa (who practices upstairs from Dr Tweedy) He is not a pediatric specialist, but they do a wonderful job with children there and I have nothing but great things to say about him and his staff.

Dr. Kirschner at the Morgan Junction (right next to Blockbuster). After switching from three other dentists I did not like, Dr. Kirschner's practice has provided the most informative and relaxing dental experience for me. The staff is always kind and friendly, and Dr. Kirschner is very skilled and gentle. When you become a patient you are asked to fill out a questionnaire that outlines your desired level of detail regarding procedures, list things that make you uncomfortable, and other things that allow them to better understand you.

While I'm not a parent, I'd be willing to bet she's awesome with kids as I can be quite a weenie when it comes to getting my teeth worked on. :)

  14. karen -- I just took my 2 year old to Dr. Tweedy's office for her very first visit this week -- it was a great experience and I was really pleased with the cost (we don't have insurance and I was expecting to be charged WAY more!). I didn't know what to expect & we actually saw Dr. Le (although I asked to schedule with Dr. Tweedy, guess it's the group practice thing) it couldn't have gone better. We'll go back for sure.

Dr. Tweedy was able to change our appointment no problem so I am not sure if they are booked 4-5 months out. We will miss her and her wonderful staff! Note to Jissy: We had that happen to us i the beginning but I asked for Dr. Tweedy to be our primary denist and it was switched no problem. We do have insurance and can only go where insurance pays or else we pay way too much out of pocket!

I really like Dr Kari Chellis. She not only is a great dentist for kids, but the whole family too. Not the least expensive, but she is a great dentist and her staff is wonderful too! This is her website Smile Secrets

  18. Dr Chellis charges twice as much as most other dentists. Something to keep in mind if cost is an issue.
